Designing an invitation?

Hey guys, my parents are having some party thing and have asked me to create an invitation for them to send to all the guest. What is the best program to do this with? I've tried word but its appalling, I don't know how to use photoshop....any suggestions??

What needs to be on the invitation?

If it is just text, it can look quite elegant - especially if you get it printed onto proper card and you would only need Word.

Depends on the type of party it is though.

Its just an 80th surprise birthday party. So it doesn't need to be really formal or anything, more fun. I was planning on having it vaguely colourful with maybe some balloons and other such party things lol, along with the text obviously!

You can do all that in Word no problem. Publisher might be better, but either way it should produce some good results. How often do people stare at an invitation anyway, they're only bothered about where and when.
