I want to do some home projects, such as making a desk, but I need software to do some design work. Like Microsoft paint, but abit more technical (not too technical because I'm a noob)

Google sketchup is pretty good, free too

+1 for Sketchup if you're after a basic package. If you keep it in 2D mode then you've got a respectable basic technical drawing package.
