Desire and Froyo Questions

I have had my Desire for about a month now. I got it from Orange so obviously came with their custom version of the software on it. I haven't rooted the phone but have installed a standard version of Android on it.

When Froyo is released what will I have to do to get the latest version? I remember someone telling me it will lock the phone out if I just update it automatically?

when its offically released it will come to your phone automatically and tell you - thats it.

orange will not lock you out by officially upgrading your phone.

Even if I scrapped the Orange software for bog standard software?

You should wait a few days until someone at XDA confirms that Orange UK Desires that have been de-branded work with the OTA (over the air) update. As soon as they say yes or give you a workaround, you'll be fine. Don't just click update or you might end up without wifi like the last update.

well thats not offical software as such - so yes then they might have a problem. im just talking about the proper update 2.2.
