hughythomas just totally stole XysteR's lime light?
Its a bit like comparing a room full of old cab space invaders vs maim where a single computer can run em all exactly the same and more but in one neat package. You'd be surprised how many big chOOns have been recorded entirely on a setup just like mine. I've done bugger all worth mentioning tho lol
On an instrument (guitars, drums) front i have no need, my style of music rarely needs them. I sold all my hardware synths, mixers, effects rack nearly 10 years ago to make room - i cleared out about 15 grands worth of vintage hardware synths alone. Don't let your eyes tell you porkies though - Although tiny, my music setup can do pretty much everything his can and just as good. Thats why i got shot of hardware, as everyone i know who records 'in home', sell off the room hoggin, chunky old tech and ultimately buy a setup similar to mine. There was a time when i used to hate the idea of using VST instruments. But now with the high quality, low latency audio interfaces VST's, Ableton Live and Reason4/Record are simply mindblowing. I have friends who play guitar and drums, if i need anything recorded/sampled, all i have to do is take my laptop with Record and i'm recording 24 bit audio @ 96k.
Depeche mode, one of the biggest bands in the world put a system like mine to good use in their music. Fair enough they now use modern analog synths for live sets, but if i want a Virus Ti sound i can pull off the same thing in Thor, NI Masive or whatever. The scary thing is, if i read what i've typed now 10 years ago i'd pee myself laughing, but its true. One other really nice thing about setups like mine is its opened the doors to pro quality recording to the masses.
Don't get me wrong though i aint knocking his gear - It has a perpose for his needs which seems to be geared towards live instrument/vocal recording. If i want to record vocals i just get in my accousic foam lined cupboard like everyone else

lol If recording audio like guitars, its easy to do multiple takes and pick the best. Drums are a different kettle of beans as you really need a mic levelled on every instrument for later processing. I'm ramblin now so i'm off for a cuppa
Ha ha not intentional man!
And I smoke and drink a bit too much but ALL the remaining money goes into my studio...
I used to be there, smokin, drinkin' old roomy hardware..... lol
XysteR certainly has a lot more there than hughy, so i dont think he stole his limelight lol
on that note, XysteR, give me monies plz
And I just HAD to steal that marioland WP, its awesome
LOL!... Camera and watch alone is 6 grand, then i'm starting to remember how much them laptops where when i bought em new, the more i'm countin' the more i'm totting this lot up the more i'm thinking eek! I should sell the Dell XPS and XPS M170 gamin laptops though as they never get used.
Nice setup bud, what Latency do you get with that audio interface on reason 4..love the krk monitors...boom boom
Latency is pretty much non existant no matter how many things i have on the go in reason4 or record rewired to live for VST's. The music comp is only a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz with the Edirol UA-25EX. The KRK Rokit monitors are awesome indeed but they really came alive when i included the sub.
You have a great setup there.
Cheers man
