So, my current headset microphone is awful. Its one that plugs in and can be removed from the headset, with the usual 3.5mm jack, and then it plugs into the pack of the PC with all the other jacks into the microphone slot.

Unfortunately, the wire seems to be fairly rubbish, loads of interference I'm thinking because the wire is so long. Currently, the tiny little microphone is plugged into the back of my sound card there. And... that's not as bad as how it was, but its still not much good.

Can someone recommend me a desktop microphone? OcUK stock a logitech microphone, but how good is that? It looks like the sort I want, but the price is a little steep for how much I use it, plus its not in stock. Are there any alternate quality microphones I can google for? Thanks!

The Logitech one you mention is pretty decent, quite a few people here at OcUK use it. I use a fairly cheap Sennheiser PC11 headset, for a mic, which I just leave on my desk. No problems at all. I was looking at getting a desk mic, or maybe a clip on one, but the PC11 works so well just lying on the desk, I have decided to stick with it.

I'm using a really, *really* cheapo PC Line mic, and despite me thinking it would be complete pants, it's served me pretty well over Steam or what have you. Never tried it on the likes of Skype, where the lack of explosions, gunfire and zombies may show up the deficiencies in sound quality.
