Desktop microphones

Are desktop microphones(like this) any good for things like skype and ingame voip or are you better with a headset mic.

I would prefer the desktop type, but i imagine the pickup isn't very good, especially on cheapo models?

Not as good as a headphone mic. Also, if you use speakers then all the people your talking too get to enjoy a time delayed blow by blow of your battles which is annoying in the extreme!
