What's this Fluxbox thingy? Is it some other GUI jobby thing?

it is a minimalist window manager, designed to be very fast (which it is).

it is also highly customisable, just take a look at some of the desktops above

Well my desktop is simple to say the least

What can I say I am not really a GUI person, and I cant leave windows because it is my primary development platform.

I could go up to 1024*768 @ 60hz but I reckon that would wreck my tender little eyes,

Some cacky Daewoo 15" jobby. Don't worry about looking, I've only got £50 in the bank so it'll be after Christmas when I can afford something better

These Desktops are better than windows. Im gonna have to get me a copy of linux, and learn it.

But i still want to keep my windows.

You can install Linux and still keep your Windows installation, yes, it's that good!

I'm running Mandrake9 but apparently it's not the best distibution , I think RedHat is the one being recomended by Mr Shak and co.

Yeah just run Redhat 8.0 on a dual boot system with Windows, there are plenty of HOWTOs out there check these links:

Well sort of.. i'm using Codeweavers office to run MS office, and Codeweavers Crossover plugin to run Trillian, Quicktime etc.

You could have course run office under wine, but the codeweavers version has been modified to allow the use of printing etc, and it pratically never crashes.
