Deus Ex - Mouse Lag

I'm having major mouse lag in the original Deus EX - the rest of the game runs smoothely but the lag is terrible.

The lag is even present on the menu screen before entering the game and really shows with the pointer!

Is there any fix for this?

Googling, it all seems mostly fixes for the latest Deus Ex: HR, the only tip I've found for the original DE in windows 7 is turned off precision mouse control (which hasn't worked).

I am running the steam version - so this must include the latest patches.

Anyone experienced and fixed this?

cheers - I've now ensured vsync is off, no AA, and have unchecked any mouse acceleration and switched to direct mouse input and it is still lagging.

FFS! I can manage with sneaking around, any action however requiring swift, sweeping movements and I am stuffed!

This is really quite odd, I've never heard anything like it before honestly.

What version of DX are you using? Is it the GoG one, Steam one, CD copy etc? Might be worth picking up all the patches for it, if you haven't got the GOTY edition.

Also, assuming your using Deus Exe, check your frame limit. I found 100fps worked best for me.

If you haven't got Deus Exe, look here:

I'm using the steam GOTY copy - I'd also picked up Kentie's exe and Direct10 renderer.

I've been toggling between using new vision and not and not and there's no change.

The give-away is on the main menu screen - the lag is present there moreso than in the game - literally a over one second between a movement and the curser moving.

I'll try re-installing and starting again maybe and see if that helps.

Cheers for the pointers.

phew.... a reinstall and using open GL rather than D10 and the lag has disappeared.

It's like a different game now!

Rather than make a new thread I'll post here;

I've tried getting the texture pack to work for Deus Ex GOTY and no luck I don't think, the graphics haven't changed (I played Deus Ex when I was younger and know what it looks like, and I don't think its changed) although I've switched to the OpenGL that came with it and changed my config. I'm not that bothered, its just the mod takes Deus Ex from a 90's game to an early 2000's game, which is nice! :p

If its the New Vision mod - I definitely noticed a difference.

Can you try removing the line from the .ini that tells the game to load textures from the NV folder as well as the standard folder and booting the game again?

Ehhh. New Vision doesn't make a huge amount of difference. You might not notice if you haven't played it in a while. Also, pretty sure you don't need the OpenGL, I played mine with the DX10 renderer and that actually makes a big difference graphically

I'd direct you to the excellent guide here (http://www.reddit.com/comments/ceuyh/step_by_step_moddingguide_deus_ex_i_spilled_my/) where it says:

Drop all the .utx files in NewVisionV1.zip in your DeusEx/Textures/ folder, overwrite when prompted. Ignore the OpenGL/ folder. --Open up DeusEx.ini and find the group [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]. Under it, add the line: UseS3TC=True

If you've done all of that, there is pretty much no reason why it shouldn't work.
