Devastated.

This thread made me apply for a job that was advertised for my area, on their site.

Sorting! How hard could it be? :D

Sorting is a piece of cake, if you are in a main sorting office it’s all done by machine. Ask any workers in a main sorting office if they were a postie and a few will say yes, now ask this same question to posties and and none will say they came from a sorting office as they know what goes on and how much harder the work is :D

Good luck though guys, you can get some good benefits working for RM though these seem to be stopping now to new starters, like the pension scheme etc..

When me and my mates were made redundant last year I helped 5 of my below average IQ mates to fill in their online application for the Post Office.
I warned all of them that they would have to keep looking for emails because it was all done online and eventually all 5 of them became Posties.
The NHS works on a similar principle with all correspondence being online and emails.
I too nearly missed a date because it ended up in my Junk folder.

There are always jobs coming up with RM because people don't last long so ring them up, explain what has happened and how gutted you are.
Good luck.

Not a good time to become a RM worker if I’m honest, there are some big changes in force and it’s getting worse, it’s a hard very hard job to be in atm, if you think you turn up and take a bag of mail out and finish at 12 you can think again.

Why did you have to take a medical?

Aye, i was supposed to finish today at 11.45am but it was more like 1.50pm... seems to be like that almost everyday now.

there was a lad who couldnt read doing sorting at xmas with us....

god knows how he got through the app process but to be fair we didnt find out till about a week in when we all realised he was just picking up a letter and putting it any random slot.

he worked there for 3 weeks without any of the bosses ever finding out...

I would ring them asap as from my experience there are often jobs available at RM, in my office alone we are 19 staff short and I will be interviewing 35 people for those roles next week. One of my main jobs nowadays is getting the deliveries covered every day as we are so short at the moment.

I phoned up the ATOS place this morning. She said my medical is still open on their system. She said they tried contacting me via phone 3 times but got no answer.

I asked her for a number of someone who is on the recruiting side at RM, she gave me the number but it rang and rang.

Ill try again on monday.

But also I was fixing someones shower today who worked in debenhams down the road to me. She said they want someone to work in the storeroom. Ive done that before at marks and spencers so i phoned them up. Guy in debenhams is gonna ring me back on monday to arrange a visit.

A bit of stable income is all i need right now. Royal mail is the one i want over a crappy storeman job though :)

Crappy storeman job?, Where I work the Storemans on a decent income, 30k, to be fair it is a large oil mining company.

Good luck with the Royal Mail thing. Loads of overtime apparently.

Is the Royal Mail job a Postie?
I'd take a storeman job over a Postie anyday.
Its great when the weather is like this today but it doesn't happen very often.

Royal mail job is specifically "Postman With Driving". Once they get past the introduction stage of having you out posting door to door on foot. the job would be driving vans full of post about.

My who works for RM said its impossible to get on as driving as it was all in house and that people who have worked the longest get first dibs, this was a few years ago though.

That maybe a carrot they've dangled in front of you.
I've got mates who've worked there for years and can't get driving jobs but that could be a Stoke On Trent thing.

As I said in my post above new starters get the worst walks in the office, it goes on seniority so you being new will be last on the list so you will get the worse walks well that’s the case here, when you have being there a few years you climb up that list and can bag a good walk, winter isn’t bad at all, get yourself a set of waterproofs and your are good to go :)

One of my Postie mates used to say "No such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes".
Very true but the weather eventually got to him.

Very true about the clothes, plenty of new starters or even people who have being there a while go out in the rain wearing no waterproofs altogether! Madness, and they wonder why the keep on getting colds :D The worst part about rain is the post gets wet through as the mail bags aren’t waterproof, we have a waterproof bag where you can put mail in but it’s useless tbh. You find the post has either disingrated or turned into papier mache in your hands :p

Reminds me of my 1st paper round.

I was basically pushing random wads of wet Lakes Citizen through doors by the end.

I havent totally left it.

I have been having absolutely no luck on finding a stable plumbing job lately. I have my gas tickets but my skills are primarily in technical aspects of gas repairs. Installations of full heatings really isnt my thing.

I plumb bathrooms / kitchens etc. and move radiators/alter pipes.. but doing full system installs isnt really my forte. But unfortunately the only jobs that come up are purely for that.

I wanted this RM job because it would mean starting early, and finishing at 12 noon. I have a friend who wants to set up a plumbing business with me next year. So I need a bit of stability at the minute. Because plumbing jobs arent cropping up too often right now.

I am earning decent money on the side at the mo doing work for family and friends etc.

Afternoons off from RM would mean i could sneak a couple of quick jobs in and bump my earnings up a bit.

Guess im just so stressed at the minute with lots of ups and downs through work and breaking up with the missus after 6 years that i just want a stable job I can depend on daily

I actually felt a little bit of sympathy for you until I read this.

So, youre claiming dole and working on the side. Thanks mate. Me as a tax payer is funding your dole money.

People that do benefit fraud are scum and if I knew your address I'd grass you up.

Haha like that all the time when it rains mate! Customers look at you and think what’s this you put through my letter box, and it’s just a lump of paper :D
