I'm glad the police don't question me anytime I ring 999.

"We understand you've been attacked, but was this a real attack?"

Actually, establishing whether a crime has really been committed is a routine part of police work. It may well be blindingly obvious in some cases, but you always need to consider it.

Incidentally, how often do you find yourself ringing 999?

Yeah, once the police arrive, not at the emergency call stage!

Unless it's blatantly obvious to the operator that it's not an emergency, such as the people who ring 999 when McDonalds have taken too long to make a Big Mac meal.

I've never had the need to call 999. But I know if I ever do need them in an emergency, I will be taken seriously.
