DHCP issuing IP addresses to computers across the network

Hi all,

Had my dedicated line installed but I have an issue.

I have various IP configs I need to apply which include issuing IP addresses to computers on the network using DHCP.

My computer will act as the 'server' (as it is always on doing call recording, order management syncing etc). Whats the easiest way to set this up?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. If I upgrade to Ultimate can I then do this within Windows? Or even upgrade to Windows 8 Professional (as this is £24.99 compared to Windows 7 Ultimate which is £125).

Otherwise is there any recommended software?

Any advice would be great.

If the router is acting as a gateway then ipconfig /all should show its IP.
If the cisco hasn't been altered then the default login credentials may work and may be on a sticker on the device somewhere.
Other than that, i'm not familiar with that model, but a google search showed that it offers DHCP.

There was a Business line installed by BT in my last place of work, DHCP wasn't a service they provided, we had to use Server 2008. It may be worth asking them about it.

Definitely ask about getting the 2921 configured correctly.

Otherwise use some 3rd party software or consider deploying an appliance to do it for you.

In my particular instance, it wasn't a case of config, it was a case of it was something they wouldn't support. Then again, this was some 5 years ago.

Going back to the OPs previous threads about getting the kit needed for a leased line installed / configured...

Is the 2921 supplied / managed by BT with the circuit? Or do they supply something like a 1921 and you've purchased the 2921?

Thanks guys, I hope this info help:

The fibre comes into the building to a small box, this then connects to a second box which converts the fibre to an ethernet connection. This then connects to the Cisco 2921 router which then connects to the switch and thus the PC's, printers etc.

The Cisco 2921 Router was provided and configured by BT. I am told simple configuration on the router may fix the problem, but on giving someone access, they were denied by BT login information which was required.

Therefore the Cisco router is out of the question.

We need something to sit between the Cisco Router and the switch to use an IP which we have and assign internal IP's to the computers needing access to the network.

I hope this clears things up. I have someone out again on Monday (someone else now) but everyone seems clueless.

Thanks in advance.

No. The company that sold it to us are Aspire Communications Ltd which are involved as the BT local business appointed to us directly from BT. They are the biggest bunch of idiots possible. I would further but I won't want to be putting my post at risk of removal. Its all yes, yes, yes when it comes to sales but they do literally nothing after getting a signature. Literally nothing.

I have sent 6 emails asking for a fully managed service. Did they get back. No.

We have reported this to several people with BT but that's it now, left with a £10k a year internet line I cannot use and no support from BT.
