DHL Delivery?

I'm expecting a package to be delivered from DHL. I ordered the item today and I got given a tracking code.

I've just seen that the item was picked up around 8PM, any one got any idea if I should be expecting it to come tomorrow?

The company said they had no idea if it was going to be tomorrow or next week, (O2).

Depends on whether DHL deliver in Christmas Eve. If they do, you should get it tomorrow. I use the word "should" because you might get a lazy driver who either "runs out of time" or "drops a card" without dropping a card.

02 need to check the DHL Christmas delivery schedule:

CLICK

Going by that, unless they have sent it on a timed service it will likely arrive after the weekend.

given the weather & consequently road conditions, i think it'll be a case of it gets there when it gets there. :(

I don't think DHL are doing next day deliveries tomorrow, it looks like premiums only. We're doing the same.

Yeah it wasn't timed or anything. Just a standard next day delivery service.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait in just incase it does. :/

Just check if it's OD tomorrow on their tracking solution. Or ring them (DHL not 02), they'll be able to tell you straight away if it's going OD or not by about 9:30 at the latest I'd imagine.

Cheers. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

If it happens to be in my local depo, any idea if I'll be allowed to go and collect it directly from the depo?

Cheers.

DHL are doing some deliveries tomorrow but they have a backlog.

Which branch is delivering it do you know?

You can go and get it from the depot if you stop it getting into a van VERY VERY early -- like best to phone before 5am! Otherwise it could well be loaded. Also before 5am the branch is going to be very very busy so they probably won't answer the phone anyway ..

Is it 'stoke' branch? If so -- I can log on and have a look for you ...?

In the order tracker it says it's been picked up from the Lichfield branch. But my local branch would be Stoke, yep.

Heres what to do

1) It's too late to stop it being shoved on to a van tomorrow 5.30am(ish) if that is what the gods intend (as in, if you're one of the lucky ones). Trying to put in a 'stop order' now would confuse people as it would (all things being equal) have to be felt-tipped written on the label itself (do not pack for delivery) which is always ropey as in they may not be able to find the exact parcel and get bored looking so give up.
2) Check the tracking at 10am. If at this time it does NOT say 'being delivered' then you won't be getting it that day by a van so don't sit in all day (disclaimer -- unless out tracking system is buggered!). Then it's worth phoning up the branch and asking if you can pick it up. TAKE IDENTIFICATION. 80% chance they'll say 'yes' (it saves us a job!). Get there as soon as possible after that as people want to shut up shop early -- and you could still get it tomorrow...

My tracking info now says

HSD Out for Delivery awaiting IOD

So I guess I could get it today. What's IOD mean?

EDIT - 2 mins after posting this, it came. :D

IOD means 'Information on delivery'.

It means we 'subbed' the parcel out to a 'home delivery courier' so the parcel was going to be out of our view for a while until we got information on delivery (or failed delivery) from their hand-held device - which can only transmit back to us how it's all going at certain places (or points) during the day. Home delivery couriers are carefully selected people who are normally after the flexibility of hand-delivering a set number of parcels a day they choose (as in, we can give them 5 parcels, or 50 -- their choice -- they get paid for what they do -- so ultimate flexible for them. Perfect for reliable people who only might want to do 1 hours work a day or something -- they choose how much work they get).

As you enjoyed from your experience, it's normally an extremely reliable system ..
