** Diablo 4 Thread **

So ... that Mephisto boss fight. Utter trash. Numerous one shot kill mechanics, unskippable cutscenes between the 3 phases and visual FX that obscure nearly all of his attacks. Forget trying it with anything less than one of the few S tier builds eg. WW barb ...
Blizzard devs never learn, do they ?

It's still more intuitive and easy to work the mechanics than the Uber Lilith fight!

Been putting some hours in the last week and got up to torment 8 before it's starting to 'feel' hard, need a few items to get my build fully working but RNG hasn't been great no matter which method I use to try getting them.

This weekend I was chipping away at side quests between war plans to get the new content polished off, not many quests left to do but unless I start getting lucky with drops I can't see my getting the seasonal rewards unlocked as I'm up to needing to kill Lilith on T8 or above.

I think a lot of players won't manage to complete the seasonal journey. Tier 8/9 are locked behind Lilith & Mephisto boss fights which require broken meta builds to beat ie. whirlwind barb, ball lightning sorc. Those boss fights are horribly designed and unfun. I've beaten Lilith and not sure I can be bothered continuing to grind for gear, glyphs etc to beat Mephisto.

Don't disagree with you, when I first played I couldn't get past the one shot mechanic with Lillith, was 1 shotting her but got fed up with running around to 'dodging stuff' doing the Mephisto fight in the story was just a cluster of stuff on the screen and his Uber version has an extra phase.

Its definitely possible without a meta build, I completed the season journey on a Blazing Scream Warlock which maxroll have listed as C Tier so I imagine its possible with quite a few other builds. I tend to start the season blind with something that is different/new for me and then switch to a meta build to finish up. Just cleared T12 Mephisto now so not much left on my ticklist. If anyone wants a carry through some of the challenges I'd be happy to help.

TLDR: Skill issue on the rest of you :p

Lol. It's really not ... I've yet to see a video of anyone beating the Mephisto fight properly by engaging with the full mechanics. Unless you count "skill" as looking up a meta build on Maxroll and Mobalytics.

Thinking about giving this season a whirl, always puts me off though cus i smash it out to fast lol.

Got to 70, derping around without any real build and random sorcerer legendaries I found while levelling. Have just finished the main campaign again, to refresh my memory and to ogle Lilith, naturally.

Now what's the goal - obviously I want to move on to Skovos and do the next story, is it worth wrapping up the original content? Blue quests, dungeons etc? I did the strongholds at least for the waypoints.

There's just a million different map icons and currencies and ways to change the gears it's feeling a little overwhelming compared to diablo 3, which felt a lot simpler.

Yeah it’s not a game one really associates with skill as you say. And that’s not a bad thing when you want to disengage the brain.

I did my best to show the various mechanics in the fight, I had to do it quickly whilst on lunch so didnt manage to catch them all and no time to redo it. Obviously this build can just stand and blast but I did learn the fight before getting to this point.

Phase 1

Frontal Cleave - stay behind him
Teleport Slam - avoid telegraphed drop location
Regular Swords - Run away continuously to avoid
Circle of Swords - Start running before the screen opens up and aim for a wide circle around the room

Phase 2

Meteors - Run continuously in a circle until they finish
Poison Waves - bait this at the start of the phase, run straight to outside and move in between the waves
Red balls of death - Run/Teleport/Evade away until they disperse
Death Beam - Damage from behind, when he starts to move ensure stay behind him
Red death laser beam/pools - Run in between them
Red death spinning circles - Move to outside of the room and pick the gap between initial two circles. Dont move until 2nd set have also exploded
Red death things on the floor - Move to the far limit of the room away from him so you have max time to avoid

Phase 3

Run south immediately to avoid first skill steal
Max DPS on head, avoid red bullets
If skill steal phase triggers, run in the gaps of the waves to avoid being sucked into his mouth
Bullets from mouth - move behind mouth
Bullet hell - dodge in the gaps

TLDR : Spin to win ;)

Not having a go at you personally, but WW barb is a broken build that almost completely bypasses the mechanics of these boss fights.
