Diamond ring help ?!

Hi guys

The inevitable time is approaching, and the 'e' word is looming :eek: . Anyway, have asked my better half what she would like for a ring, as I know that she wouldnt like anything that I would have chosen. She says she wants a ring exactly like the one below, which was taken off the Tiffanys website.

I have spoken to a jeweller in belgium, and he has quoted me £2200 to make the ring in platinum with a 0.8 carat E VS2 diamond. I really dont know a lot about rings/diamonds, so am just wondering what you guys think - is this a good price ? Is that a good diamond ?

E VS2 is a pretty good stone ( you shouldn't see any flaws with the naked eye ) and I think that £2200 is a reasonable price



just to add one thing , is 0.8ct the overall diamond weight or just that of the main stone ?
 
Seems very cheap if that's a 0.8ct round diamond with a good cut.

Ask him what the proportions are of the diamond and check with some websites to see if they bode well for the brilliance/fire. That's probably the most important factor.

Also, ask him what certificate it has - this is arguably even more important as I would doubt very much whether it's GIA/HRD at that price.

Sod that for a game of soldiers, its one month ;)

And there's no way I'd spend that much on an engagement ring anyway.
 
The engagement ring I got for the Little One Indoors cost around a third of that. If she'd had demanded I spend 2.2k she'd have been shown the door. Seriously, an expensive ring show you love her more? Didn't think so!

I'd say no more than a months salary is fair...

Nice ring though.
 
Not a bad price, but make sure Tiffany's don't find out, because if they do, said jeweller will be jumped on from a great height :)
 
I have to say that nothing in my opinion beats a Tiffany Engagement Ring. I know others will disagree and I am not trying to change anyone's opinion, but there's a very romantic connection with the name. Your fiancee will be very happy to be given a genuine Tiffany ring and even more happy when she can show it off to all and sundry ;)
 
My wife of 10 years preferred a good holiday to a piece of compressed carbon.



An engagement that we both enjoyed :D
