DICE details BF4 fixes, mostly CPU.

Yeah it was pretty bad tbh. IMO BF3 in multi actually looks better. Looks like BF4 has bigger maps though.

you judging a 3 month old build ;)

It's been in development for a couple of years :)

But no, not judging it. I do get a very odd feeling it only supports 6 CPU cores though and I had that suspicion with BF3 also. Will need to crack out my little VFD screen and set it to monitor core usage.

I won't be playing it in multi player any way I just want the SP to be good with really nice graphics :)

BF4 beta uses 8 threads on my i7. Sure it'd do the same on AMD.

From memory BF3 only uses ~6 threads

Good to know thanks Pete. Yeah I'm pretty sure I did some digging once and BF3 only used 6. Same reason as 3dmark 11 IIRC, for the 980x.

Is this the reason why BF4 was said to be 50% faster on Windows 8? buggy as **** game code?

No Windows 8 works differently to 7. It's been trimmed and optimised for Direct X. Sadly 99% of people can't see past Metro (which is completely crap I agree, especially on desktops and non touch screens) so didn't bother with it.

It is, actually, quite a good bloody OS tbh. The boot times are much faster, shut down times are faster and it's rather pretty to look at when you've installed a start button which can easily be had for free.

I shan't be bothering with 8.1 myself as I'm happy with it as it is :)

50% faster is still a hell of a lot though just for OS tweaks, you don't even get that with newer generations of hardware.

It's a possibility that the Windows 7 run just suffered from this bug and got bogged down during benchmarking whereas the Windows 8 one didn't.

Windows 8 is faster as an OS. Personally I certainly don't think it's 50% faster for me. I was seeing mins of 49 FPS in BF4.

I've seen a good lot of improvements in other games and benchmarks though. Mostly around 10% but higher in some cases.

Will load up BF4 tonight and see if the patches come down :)
