DICE details BF4 fixes, mostly CPU.

Yeah it was pretty bad tbh. IMO BF3 in multi actually looks better. Looks like BF4 has bigger maps though.

you judging a 3 month old build ;)

It's been in development for a couple of years :)

But no, not judging it. I do get a very odd feeling it only supports 6 CPU cores though and I had that suspicion with BF3 also. Will need to crack out my little VFD screen and set it to monitor core usage.

I won't be playing it in multi player any way I just want the SP to be good with really nice graphics :)

I didnt get to test the beta. Downloaded it onto my old machine but my parts arrived next day for this new build. Built the rig and tried it the other night to see they pulled the beta!

:(

Don't think anyone was judging anything, just having a laugh at some of the funnier moments ie the boat that spawned on top of the multistory :)

The fact that it was an old build was obvious however they are also talking about having implemented changes brought to light due to the beta. Why they would need a beta to show them that the game was horribly optimized is a bit of a worry. By that I mean most of the issues the beta highlighted that we see ie client side, should already have been sorted in their current build.

Sadly my old system failed horribly and on the basis of the 'final' beta that we had access to I wouldn't pre-order BF4. Final release and some good reviews/benchmarks (or money for a new system :D) could change that.

Happy to hear that they have managed to do some work on the CPU usage since that build. My 2500K was barely hanging in there at 1440p.

I kinda want them to leave that bug in, always made things interesting when in a middle of a firefight a boat popped in!

BF4 beta uses 8 threads on my i7. Sure it'd do the same on AMD.

From memory BF3 only uses ~6 threads

My performance in the beta was pretty decent on Windows 8, but it was definitely not as smooth as BF3.

My main issue I hope they fix, is how quickly you die. It felt like playing Hardcore mode in the beta.

Good to know thanks Pete. Yeah I'm pretty sure I did some digging once and BF3 only used 6. Same reason as 3dmark 11 IIRC, for the 980x.

It does use 6 threads. There was a review of 4-core vs 6-core i7s with HT enabled and disabled around 8 months ago. The slightly worrying thing at the time was that although a hex-core 3930k was better (in terms of min, max and average fps) than a 3770k, this improvement was mainly when the 3930k had hyperthreading off.

I certainly hope that BF4 utilises 4 cores + 4 threads or 6 cores + 6 threads or 8 cores effectively.

I'm of the opposite opinion, i hated how long it took to kill and be killed on the beta:(
But i only ever play Hardcore on BF3 so i guess it was to be expected.
