Did any horror movies actually scare you?

I found the last 5 minutes of REC were quite spine chilling. The Grudge is also very creepy.

Weirdly the X Files used to freak me out when I was younger :o

I'm a big wuss but love horror films but there is one that I couldn't stick and that was 'The Grudge'. I know I'm probably going to get laughed at here but when Sarah Michelle Gellar went up into the loft and that thing appeared, god, it scared the beejesus out of me and I switched it off. Still only watched it up until that part.

As a kid Poltergeist and Jaws scared me a lot! As an adult the Descent - being stuck underground doesn't sit well with me and the Grudge.

Probably this:

You should watch the japanese original. Superior film IMO

I don't get ' the thing ' hype at all. maybe i was too drunk but it seemed boring and the mates i cajoled into watching it didn't like it either. by modern standards its hardly a great film, nor is it scary.

Reading the book: It (s king ) at primary school ruined me though - i have never been back to watch the film.

When I first watched the original (Japanese) Ring trilogy, I didn't sleep properly for 2 weeks! The only other films that have really, really scared me since then are Kairo and A Tale Of Two Sisters.

Honorable mentions go to The Eye, Ju-on and a few other Easten Films.

Asia do horror soooo much better than the West. I think because they make you think a lot more so they constantly play on your mind long after the film has finished.

Aliens scared the poo out of me when it was released on VHS. Think it was '87. Long time ago. 'We got a live one!'...'Kill meeeee..' bit especially. That haunted me for months

Another vote for The Descent, great edge of the seat horror with a brilliant twist that I knew nothing about before watching it

Honourable mention goes to "The Strangers" wasn't expecting much from this film tbh, but really got to me for some reason, have kept the back door locked when I'm in ever since! :o

Any of the Jap films with scary little kids in them :(

Though i havent seen the Jap versions, only the remakes...and i know the jap ones are supposed to be much better :p

I honestly have no idea what it is about them

...oh and poltergeist, watche dthat as a kid and have never watched it since...one reason i also never want to watch paranormal activity, i dont believe in stuff like that, but it makes me very uneasy for some reason

As a kid the following scared me stiff:

Salems Lot - was also 10 when I saw it! And yes the it was the scene with the kid at the window that flipped me out too.

Creep Show - Ted Danson zombie™ (:D) and the Fathers Day zombie really spooked me out as a kid, why was it I always had to walk home in the dark after watching these films at a friends!

Theatre of Blood - Vincent Price decapitating Arthur Lowe in his sleep had me hugging the duvet to my neck every night for a week.

Eraserhead - not sure if this is classed as horror but it certainly left me feeling very creeped out, a very surreal and bleak piece of work!

The Haunting - Not the pants remake, but the original black and white movie. I think this may have been really creepy at the time as a lot was left to your imagination. Good use of sounds and banging noises in the film to build atmosphere.

As an adult I would say my most memorable scares would be the end of Rec and The Grudge. Can't think of much else but would love to see some more cleverly crafted scary/creepy films rather than the glut of shockers and gore fests we seem to be inundated with these days.

I finally managed to conquer my fear of the grudge last night by watching it really drunk. For some reason, we decided that the grudge was actually a jolly spaniard and proceeded to add our own lines whenever she appeared - "Hola! Soy Grudgio! Como te llamas!" :o :D

It just goes to show that if you purposefully try to make a scary film not frightening, then it really won't affect you.

Also, today I watched the grudge 2, it was a terrible film, don't bother with it.

I couldn't watch the Exorcist till I was about 14. It stills freaks me out today.

IT gave me nightmares like no other. I could watch it but had so many bad nightsmares as a kid. Seen it about 20 times now and its just a fantastic movie now. Still creepy.

The Thing and Alien would be the closest to scaring me.

Mind you, the thing that has scared me the most is actually the book of The Day Of The Triffids. Creepy as fudge.
