I thought it was great. Nails ********. Can't believe out of 600+ men, when faced with what they thought was nearly certain death, not one of them backed out when given the opportunity.

Ummm.. One did back out didn't they?

Didn't a handful of the Commandos make it from there to Gibralter?

Yes a couple did...

There was also a rumour that the reason the bomb went off so late was infact a couple of commandos sneaked back on board and manually detonated it!

Really? Amazing courage if true. I didnt watch the prog but i know of the raid.

IIRC, the local Commander was parading some captured troops in front of the boat, saying how pathetic this attempt at destroying his dock was, when it promptly blew up in his face!

A lot of it sounded surreal!
1) The Germans patting and praising the commandos for their action.
2) Them Germans not carefully checking the boat for the explosives that surely had to be on there!

I know, did they honestly think that they would try to ram it? The gates were 11m thick!

was a fantastic program and really enjoyed it.

Ive spent a few summers down in Falmouth and im sure ive seen that tiny monument.

Agreed. A fantastic show.
Lets just hope that we never forget people like this, as I remember one of the veterans saying something like "I think the youth of today would do the same thing if the situation arose" (no, its not an exact quote, just an idea of what he said for the potential nitpickers)
But sadly I dont think the same breed of people exist anymore, and if we were thrown in their shoes I'd run 56miles in 12hours up Snowdon and hide like the coward I am.
Makes me also wonder whether medals are now easier to get? Given that quite a few have been given out recently... but still each one given requires massive bravery and selflessness.

God bless Sky's Remote Record off of their website :D Otherwise I would forget to record/watch this :D :D

Great program, one of them was shot 16 times  and carried on firing at a German destroyer until he passed out from blood loss.

Certainly where brave men, the number of injury's and what they carried on and did was amazing.

The documentary glitzed over the more horiffic sort of stuff though! A lot of the losses I believe were down to the vessel's being hit on the way in/out. Many of the men drowned or burned in ignited fuel in the water!

Saw that on Sunday, fantastic program!!

Immense respect to the guys who did that. :)

One of the guys said at the end that this generation (my generation) would do the same.

I highly highly highly doubt it, personally I would probably have gone if I was one of those guys

Really enjoyed this program last night, well wrote and presented, who knows what would have happened if the turpitz had a free rein in the atlantic and the guys who did the mission i have nothing but respect for them true heroes imo

Great program. A change for something informative to be on, caught it on the off chance. Those guys were built of strong stuff.

Maybe they should have called it 600 :)

I should imagine it's far more likely than you think, there were only 600 people in that raid and I should imagine there would be a greater amount present today who would do such a mission if the circumstances were right today. We're too quick to jump to conclusions just because some of the youth today are portrayed to just be hoody wearing chavs who would prefer to get ****** every night and who wouldn't be seen doing anything like that.

I enjoyed the program though, very informative :)
