Did I buy a faulty graphics card?

Thanks, I'm not very knowledgeable on these things so if anything it was definitely worth posting as I'm learning a lot. I honestly thought if the psu wattage was high enough it would be able to run most gpu's.

Its funny as it makes the supply look much more capable than it is. More expensive supplies will be single or dual rail (many recent dual rail supplies have a single rail mode) and supply all their amps on a single rail. Your one is not like that at all, wattage means very little, the way it is delivered is what is important.

You have to be careful with CEX, I traded in my old 1600X Ryzen for 50 quid, I could have killed it with voltage or something and they would not have known because they did not test it.

On the bright side they gave me 50 which was actually quite good in August last year for a 1600X, normally they really underpay.

Yeah, that was the 2nd 780 ti i had from cex. First one booted into windows once after that every time i tried loading in to windows it was like watching a old tv with no signal (fuzzy screen).

I'm planning on building a new system in spring time so just buying something to last until then. As for the gpu for the new system.. I've not really researched what I should go for as of yet.

Buying in spring? Might as well wait. Unless you can find a used card that will hold value like a 980ti. Yeah it might drop some but only £10-20 if you get a good deal on one.

If you can get one for £140-150 you will sell on for around that anyway

Probably just going to give my old pc to a relative so I'm not too bothered about devaluation.

Everything Vince has said is correct. With power supplies and wanting to know if it's going to be enough for a specific card, you need to look at the current and power on the 12v rail, the 3.3v and 5v ones are old hat now and were used years ago but aren't important any more.

So if you do end up shopping for a new power supply, 12v ratings are most the important you should look for.

Yeah CeX doesnt test most PC hardware, if it looks okay they will take it. I went to give in a GTS 250 a good couple of years ago and they didnt have any test bench in the store but still took it anyway because they said they would test it and for me to come back in an hour.

Could have been broken. Also traded in a PSP that had a dodgy disc reader and they didnt check it.

Yeah one of my friends told me yesterday that he had seen copied (Pirated) DVD's for sale in Cex. Probably going to keep my distance from that place as they seem to do a lot of dodgy stuff.
