hi, i jsut brought a new 3tb hdd, but i cant seem to get it working properly
im using a dfi lanparty mi-p55 t36 MB with an i7 860 CPU

the problem im having is that both the bios and windows 8 can only see about 750GB of of the 3tb

is there anything that can be done?

I used a thing called Paragon GPT Loader to get mine to work, but that's cos I was rocking Windows XP. Windows 8 should be all over that.

If it can't see the full 3tb in the bios (and it's correctly formatted) then I'd suggest checking to make sure you have the latest bios for the board.

ive tried updating the bios, but the dfi flashing software wont let me

For completeness, I'd suggest testing the drive in someone's else computer if you can. But it sounds like the BIOS is the sticking point. I would google the issue around flashing the BIOS and see if they have an solutions.

I would also see if you can find out if the version of the BIOS you have should support the drive, because I would expect it to, but if you can get confirmation that it doesn't then at least you'll know that's definitely the problem.

I have another question, what 3tb drive is it? Cos my WD worked like a charm first time, but I also have a seagate and that was a pain in the ***!

If you bought a new 3tb drive, and used it in an older USB caddy, that would explain everything (the 3tb uses 48bit LBAs, the caddy only handles 32bit LBAs). You might be lucky and find a firmware upgrade for the SATA>USB chip, or you may need to get a newer caddy (or connect internally via SATA).

Here's the thread I saw which made me suspicious of your 750gb partition (rather than the usual 2.2tb) :

^^ But if that's not the case, then I've no idea. :p
