Ok, so I hadn't got any sun rise pictures in ages (mainly due to my hatred of early mornings). also I've never taken any pictures with the blurey water effect. So last night I decided it was time things changed and duely set my alarm for 4am. Skip for to 4:20am with my mum shouting to turn that bloody alarm off (how can she here it from the other room but i cant when its next to my bed?!?), i get up, have a quick cuppa and i'm on my way.

Doesnt take long to get to a good spot where you can see the waves (which on closer inspection were much bigger then they looked from the top of the cliff) and a small island just out at sea, perfect!

I hadnt really set myself up in the safest of positions, i was just at the bottom of a big overhanging cliff, only out of the water because i'm standing on part of the cliff thats recently fallen off. With waves crashing around me i'm setting up the camera faster then i've ever done in my life! Finally its all set up, and i take the shot:

When I spot a giant wave coming right for me.
I literally had to jump across a metre gap, with tripod/camera (not sure why i grabbed it, in hindsight this was also a stupid thing to do). This left me clinging to the edge of a higher rock spider man style, only with a lot less grip. Then the wave hit the rocks below my feet, soaking me completely! But I hung on and very quickly pulled myself up onto the top of the rock to make my escape.

I didnt really think much of it at the time, and continued to photograph other higher up stuff. But now its all a bit scary. At least the photo came out! If that was messed up I be very grrrr now!!!

Mind you its almost worth getting soaked and cold just for the awsome feeling when you get home and have a hot shower and nice cup of tea!!! I love it. :p

So any C&C on the image?!?

Thank you!

I used a lee 0.6ND to blur the water and a 0.9ND hard grad for the sky. The colours are pretty much unaltered, just upped the saturation a little. I love sunrises!

Just think,if you'd done this shoot 2 or 3 months ago, you could've got up at 6am for the exact same effect. Thus giving yourself 2 extra hours sleep and having a lie in this morning!

Very nice image though ;)

I like the tones in the sky, and the island stands out as nice and sharp against the backdrop.

Nice composition and a great shot, just am a little unsure about the colour cast. It's very red - so I adjusted the colours in PS to make the sky look blue and the rocks more brown and it gives you a different feel of the shot - have a go and see.

You're going to hate me but I think the clouds on the left feel like they're a splash of water more than clouds. That aside its fanstastic :)

Thank you very much everyone! Sorry didnt reply earlier but have been working pretty much solidly since I posted last!

MrSix- would be interested to see what your edit looked like, feel free to post it if you've still got it! It does look a little on the red side now I look at it again. Had a little play myself:
