Its funny when I look back at opening my 360 and setting her up... there was the obvious excitement, followed by a more muted 'meh' at the console capabilties.

Now this isnt to say I didnt/dont like the console, infact I think LIVE and the choice of games has been superb and an enjoyable experience, but I think my point is that this was my first next gen console and from the boot up through to game graphic 'wowness' just wasnt really there

I mean I had GoW, Darkness, Forza and Dead Rising to begin with but none of them made me really think this is a notch above... but if im honest, they are all good looking games. Subsequent games are of the same persuasion, nice but nothing to make me step back and think 'yes this is what next gen should be about'

Anyway back to my point, got a PS3 for christmas and my first reaction was 'wow' - the games do make me think this really is what the next gen should look like. OK ive got Motorstorm PR which is slick, pretty and full of variety. Then R2 which is another slick playing game, LBP is what it is and FIFA 09 has a little more crispness than the 360 version imo

Its not a bash on either console, but it would be interesting to know if other dual-console owners thought when they booted each machine up for the first time?

i got a 360 and my brother got a ps3, i decided to go check it out on his HD TV. he was playing fight night round 3 and i was just amazed at the graphics, i tried to hide my enriched face to show him that ps3 still sucked ;)

away to my 360 i goooooooooo :D

see i thought the opposite i had a ps3 on my 32inch first and thought the graphics where meh as well the online play with a ps3 at the time was a joke, and the small amount of games then really ticked me of so i went with the 360 and have never looked back and am sure things have changed for ps3 as of late but i could never justify the purchase of a ps3 to my girlfriend again not when a 360 can be had for less than half, but enjoy your ps3

may of been the tv or resolution you were playing but graphic wise it has been proven that ps3 is better

I've had both, and to be honest I couldn't really choose one over the other for graphical capabilities - they're so close it's pointless to debate (although, this doesn't seem to stop people debating it anyway!!). It usually comes down to something inane like "if you look closely, there are slightly more jaggies on the 3rd building from the left"!!

I do however prefer the PS3 for it's overall package - I find it a neater all-in-one solution than the 360 was.

cobblers tbh. its been proven in many cases that its down the setup / game

i have a xbox and love it.
However when i first saw a ps3 in the shop with its graphics etc i was blown away. I put it down the marketing + big old hd tv's they slapped in all the shops whereas MS has little 22" hd tvs with that game where you turn into a boxing flower / rock etc (too early in the morning)

i ummd and aah'd over my xbox for over a year after release but finally succumbed when the AAA titles started rolling in. (had the PS3 had some AAA titles it might have been so different)

time has shown i made absolutely the right decision as this for me has been the best console ever.

I wow'ed at GOW, GRAW, Fight Night Round 3, MotoGP, Condemned and others for the first year that I got my 360. In comparrison, I didn't wow at Resistance and only had a few wow moments in Motorstorm.

But anyway, these days both are impressing me equally

See back in 2006 when a lot of people bought a 360, they all went "wow this is awsome this is what the next gen should look like".

Now 2 years later, its a current generation console, and well, we dont need anything else explaining do we...

Proof please :D

PICS OR IT NEVER HAPPENED !!!!

I own both I have to say I do think some of the PS3 games look better but then again theres some Xbox games I think look great too so meh

With regards to excitement and then the meh feeling........ You are too spoilt for choice ! :D

Go play a C64

I got a PS3 in November last year, it has been turned on approximately 11 times since then, once in the last 6 months - i think it is a "boring" piece of kit - the games i did play on it - RFOM, GT:P were both sub par - i did enjoy Heavenly Sword however but even that was not "amazing". In fact... i may as well sell the paper weight!

Graphicly both consoles are superb, both powerful machines - but when it comes down to the games, controller, presentation for me the 360 wins hands down.

Cant say thats been my experience(i have both machines), the bulk of cross plaform games look identical or look/run slightly worse on PS3. MGS4 and LBP look great but nothing a 360 couldnt do and Resistance 2 was a massive dissapointment with messy graphics. Now Killzone 2 looks like its going to be a stunning game(but risks looking samey) and i hope that doesnt dissapoint me like R2 has.

The 360 was the first Next gen console and ive been wowed time after time by it. Many of those games that have wowed me are also on PS3(thankfully). Having said that, i dont think any PS3 exclusive has truly wowed me yet, its come close a couple of times though.

When I first got my 360 I only had an SDTV but I was still fairly impressed with it. I decided to grab an HDTV two days after getting my PS3 on launch day so I did get a bit of wow-factor from seeing that jump.

I personally can't see that big a difference between 360 and PS3 graphics on an HDTV though. There's really not that much in it.

However, if I go back and look at a 360 launch title now I can see a big difference between those and today's games. It's not entirely fair to compare several year old 360 games (ie. Dead Rising and Forza) to newly released PS3 games as there is obviously a big difference there due to many factors, such as programmers getting more to grips with the PS3 etc.

That's incorrect. Most graphics comparisons out on the net seem to tie in with my personal experiences - that there really isn't that much difference. The odd game will look better on one platform over the other, sometimes it's the other way round, but generally you still have to study the images to pick out minor differences.

I know it's not that big a deal - but I love the little orchestral refrain when you power up the PS3!! :)

Agreed. (stuff like FPS differences or tearing you really would not know unless you played on both platforms).

I found the consoles the other way round tbh. I had a 360 and HDTV 1st so when the PS3 came out I had already played some "HD" console games so the PS3 didn't seem as impressive on 1st use, for games. Also back then they released multiplat games I had already played on 360, when I played the same games on PS3 (rentals) they were often longer to load and had various other issues.

Having already seen 720P games on 360 the things that stood out on PS3 were *** additional functions that it did so much better than 360 (around when they were both released, before all these updates) like mediaplayback, musc players, better downloadable games and sheer amount of options!!! (I love trying out new functions etc).

I suppose if you bought both consoles more recently, updates, newer games etc would make the differences smaller, but back at release the PS3 was disappointing (HD games wise) if you had already played a 360, although it made up for it by offering so many other functions, out of the box (for me).

I have both and enjoy using both but i use my PS3 more now than the 360 , i wasnt interested in PS3 when it first came out because of the lack of games compared to what 360 had at that time but now it is a different story and it is slowly getting a decent collection of games , it still makes me laugh when people say the 360 can be had for 130 notes but then they arent taking into account that you dont get a hard drive or a wireless adapter with it so then the price difference isnt so big .

I guess, but then Microsoft was flogging on cheap HDD's for those purchasing arcades. For me I dont need a wireless adapter so that never bothered me :p

End of the day enjoy both, I never see why people feel they need to prove why one console is better than the other

Then again I has the monies to afford both and a fairly decent PC. So I get the best of all worlds :D

I think both consoles are close tbh. Graphics wise if I had to be brutually honest I think the PS3 has the slight edge. I don't think Ive seen better console graphics than Uncharted yet. I remember when I first saw that Uboat my jaw dropped. PS3 does seem to lack a little more in multiplat department I find.
