I just don't know where to start with this other than stating you're just plain wrong and a fool to believe whatever source you had.

I have both and enjoy using both but i use my PS3 more now than the 360 , i wasnt interested in PS3 when it first came out because of the lack of games compared to what 360 had at that time but now it is a different story and it is slowly getting a decent collection of games , it still makes me laugh when people say the 360 can be had for 130 notes but then they arent taking into account that you dont get a hard drive or a wireless adapter with it so then the price difference isnt so big .
There have been lots of posts on this forum trying to justify the PS3 by saying the £129 360 arcade console is so called gimped and not worth buying.
But if the consumers only want or need a console to play games the arcade system does that without them having to purchase anything else.
Just like the PS2 did and that console ended up selling better than any console in the history of consoles.
The casual gamers might just want a console to play games and do not want a multimedia console like the PS3 to watch blu-ray movies etc.
I would like to bet that Sony would love to have a this generation console like the arcade that only played games and sold for £129 to compete on price in this bad economic climate.
A lot of people have said that MS should not have made the arcade console but others might think they have been very clever.
There must be millions of kids who have a PS2 and a tv in there bedrooms to play games and the arcade system is ideal for that.
I have both consoles and think performance wise they are pretty much equal.
I dont disagree with a lot you said but when i mentioned the arcade it was because someone i know wanted a xbox and had seen the adverts for it and was saying how cheap it was but in his case he wanted to play it on his hdtv so would need a wireless adapter and the hard drive so it wasnt looking quite as cheap thenand i said also dont forget the hdmi cable (yes i know you dont get one with PS3 also) yes there is a market for the arcade as you say but plenty of people will be drawn to the cheap price without doing any homework on what they actually need .
You don't need a HD, or a wireless adapter. I've only just bought a HD but had no problems before then. And an ethernet connection made more sense than around 50 quid on an adpater.
Maybe i didnt explain that very well he has a hdtv downstairs and his computer and router upstairs so was looking to setup the xbox wirelessly and yes he would need a hard drive for download content etc .
I was talking about customers in general, not just this one case, as you seemed to.
but im right about the grid thingy...if that means anything now
Its funny when I look back at opening my 360 and setting her up... there was the obvious excitement, followed by a more muted 'meh' at the console capabilties.
Now this isnt to say I didnt/dont like the console, infact I think LIVE and the choice of games has been superb and an enjoyable experience, but I think my point is that this was my first next gen console and from the boot up through to game graphic 'wowness' just wasnt really there
I mean I had GoW, Darkness, Forza and Dead Rising to begin with but none of them made me really think this is a notch above... but if im honest, they are all good looking games. Subsequent games are of the same persuasion, nice but nothing to make me step back and think 'yes this is what next gen should be about'
Anyway back to my point, got a PS3 for christmas and my first reaction was 'wow' - the games do make me think this really is what the next gen should look like. OK ive got Motorstorm PR which is slick, pretty and full of variety. Then R2 which is another slick playing game, LBP is what it is and FIFA 09 has a little more crispness than the 360 version imo
Its not a bash on either console, but it would be interesting to know if other dual-console owners thought when they booted each machine up for the first time?
As a long term gamer, from C64, Amiga to PC with the original Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem etc. I’m utterly amazed how good the current generation consoles really are. Having coughed up over 2k for a Pentium 90Mhz back in the early 90’s that could run Doom comfortably if you didn’t turn the resolution past around 320x240 it staggers me that for £160 you can get an Xbox with HDD and DVD, seriously good games and a fantastic online experience. Back then it cost around £250 for a 2x speed CD and a SoundBlaster 16.
I’ve read a few of the PC vs, Xbox vs. PS3 articles / threads and every time I struggle to understand why players have so much time to compare the intricacies of aliasing when immersed in the action.
Personally I’ve got a PC and an Xbox 360, I’d have considered the PS3 if it was a little cheaper but it worked out a lot more expensive for me as I didn’t need accessories and I got most of my games from auction. I’ve also got an original Xbox with 17 games which cost me £30 and has provided hours of fun along with my PS2 which cost me £400 with two games and a DVD when launched.
I think they’re both great consoles and even the Wii is a fantastic piece of hardware.
Games seem to get better and better, I downloaded the demo of GRID a couple of days ago and the replays…. Wow. I was utterly shocked so I’ve now ordered it in addition to PGR4. I also order an AMD branded copy for the PC for £2.50 ish … same as OCUK were giving away I guess but I didn’t need hardware at the time
I still prefer PC’s for FPS as I’m a better shot with the mouse that pad but whatever the platform you choose, gaming today is fantastic. Stop comparing and Enjoy.
