Pretty annoyed at the moment and wondering if I have a chance of getting a penny out of a petrol station / company.

I rode my motorbike into a station as I had run down to the last bar and filled up to the brim. (16 ltrs) paid and rode out the station the bike straight away over revved so I cut it out and called out recovery.

I have my receipt which sates I used unleaded so happy with that also have my last receipt with unleaded on so all good.

The garage has stated that there is defiantly diesel in the tank and it's blown a throttle body. What's my chances of the garage footing the bill for this. I know it is not my mistake put proving it won't be easy if they kick up a fuss.

I can afford to have the repairs done but would rather not.

What's your thoughts.

I go to Spain on it on the 12 sept so need it sorted ASAP.

That's rather strange. Which petrol station was this, and do you have the pump number on the receipt? If you've been hit by this mix-up then maybe other motorists have too?

I would seem to think that if you've got the receipt and after a check it does show there has been a mix-up at the petrol station then they would be liable for any repairs to your bike, as technically, it wasn't your fault at all. You put unleaded in, the receipt confirms this.

cor, thats a big balls up if thats the case

how much can you trust the garage though?

do you recall your petrol smelling like diesel when yuo filled up?

If this was the case im sure there would be a lot more people affected and the garage would defiantly be paying out some damages. Get down there, find out what the situation is and find out if they are aware of the mix up and what they are doing about it. Try and get in contact with any one else that may have been affected

I imagine they'll be liable... if they're advertising a product and giving something else and causing damage then a consumer can't protect themselves.

It's not like you can have a drink before you put it in the tank, you assume what is labelled is correct. I agree with people here... inform garage ASAP so at-least they can plan the day ahead and any fallout.

I would also take pictures of the pumps if I was you... probably too late for that now though!

Article here for you - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...tanker-driver-fills-unleaded-tank-diesel.html - You'll prob be covered once they own up...

I'd also assume there's a good chance of having you on CCTV filling up, which would potentially clearly show which pump you used.

Bit off topic but how does this even happen. The guy driving the filler tanker has 2 jobs.
Deliver fuel.
Connect filler hose to the right flaming tank and fill it.

It just seems insane that it's even possible to **** up such a simple job.

Go back to the garage in the first instance.....

I'm sure they will have to cover the cost of repairs.

...But they probably won't reimburse you for the fuel you filled up with (this is no joke)

Rather not say which garage yet as they may be more than helpful and sort it out. The receipt has the pump number and what fuel was drawn so that's good. CCTV would be critical here as well.

I got the bike back to the garage as it was literly 50 meters when it played up and about the safest place to wait for recovery.

I didn't smell the tank as was 100% I had petrol in there as i had receipt and looked when I got back to the garage.

If the tank is flaming, as you say, it's probably not as simple as you think.

Never tried mate.
I'm good at putting the right hose in the right hole though.

Or so the ladies tell me.

Fnnarrr!

If somebody has swapped the pumps so the petrol sits in the diesel holder and vica versa, if I was to pick the diesel up out the petrol holder would I get a receipt for petrol? Not sure if that makes sense but it does to me.

No.

If the diesel nozzle was in the UL receptacle and vicer versa and you pick the UL nozzle up it would activate the diesel pump. If you then pressed the UL pump handle nothing would happen as it wouldn't be active.

Haven't thought this through have you ;-P

Hmmm, I am sensing you cocked up, easy done with the modern stresses of life. Even if the receipt says diesel I suspect you'll need more, not least if no one else was effected.
