Diet to lose weight - Advice?

What could I have for breakfast thats meaningful? Either before I leave or make at work - I have never been big on cereal or anything

I'm the same, not a fan of milk so never been into cereal. For breakfast I usually whip up some scrambled eggs and spinach leaves and have them in a wholemeal wrap, burrito style. Takes literally 10 minutes on a morning to cook and eat. Then I'll take some Skyr yoghurt (high in protein so will help keep you full) to work and mix in some fruit when I get there.

Healthy eating can sometimes feel like a right pain in the balls, especially when it's early in the morning and you need to get to work. Preparation is the key though. Spend 10 minutes on an evening getting breakfast/lunch ready for the next day and it becomes much, much easier to not just think '**** it' and end up at McDonalds out of convenience.

I do agree it can be easy to eat a 'lot' of something that's good for you and make no difference to losing weight.

Thanks for more tips as well guys.

Breakfast is a hard one for me but think I may ave found at least 1 thing - Burrito style seems good for the morning as well though :)

Well I got the fitness pal app on my phone - WOW did not realize some of the stuff I eat was so high - Really is an eye opener.

Started some differences today - Had 2 boiled eggs for breakfast pre-made so had first thing at work.

Have some ham pasta for lunch - Not a crazy portion

Have a low fat yogurt, some dry roasted nuts and some cut carrot to snack on if I feel peckish.

Anything I try which I don't enjoy I will try and replace with something else to try and continue the cycle until I feel content.

I still have the bottled flavored water - Volvic touch of fruit 1.5l bottle - Fitness pal says high in sugar...really am stuck for what to replace it with.

First proper day is today I guess :D

I'd ditch any yogurt labeled as "low fat" that basically just means they filled it with sugar instead to regain the mouth feel and taste lost by removing the fat.

You'll probably find the different in calories between low fat and normal yogurt is negligible anyway.

May not even eat the yogurt but will try it if I am more hungry later - Will see what the app says about it as well.

Have a question about the my fitness app - I may be able to work the exercise bike in 1 night a week when I am watching a podcast - If I was to put in saying I have went for an hour it automatically works out the calories I have burned - What I am not sure of is does this mean going flat-out or just a general steady pace?

With the flavoured water some are high in sugar (and hence calories) but others, think mostly I've looked at the own-brand Tesco/Sainsbury's stuff has quite low sugar, like <0.5g per 250ml 'serving'

eat healthy and light exercise. Don't snack, if you need to snack on an apple. The key is to drink as much water as possible, if your a male pref 3 litres a day, trust me this really helps. Cut out sugar, this is a huge fat giver!

I did the 9 day forever living detox in November last year. I lost nearly 1 stone in 9 days and I felt like I had loads of energy. I wasn't fat I just need to shed a few lbs fast for my tennis matches.

And 3 days after switching back to eating and drinking normally you'd put most of that back on, am I right?

Most of that stone will have been water and glycogen both of which are quickly replaced when you get back to eating normally. These detoxes are complete ****, you don't lose any real fat and your body is perfectly capable of dealing with it's own waste products.

Thanks - Well done 1 stone in 9 days is insane!

I have heard that if you just go cold turkey and pretty much stop eating to lose weight quickly you put it back on twice as fast.

I don't know the ins and outs of the detox's though

And that is unfortunately why they sell and people pay some crazy prices for them, all they see is that number which is meaningless for the reasons I posted above.

I just googled it - They must make fortunes with people thinking ooo I need to go and do that again.

The person who posted about it though did say it was just to trim for an upcoming event so I don't think it is their gospel to keep weight off.

I started a similar thread last week. 16st1lb and 5'7 so morbidly obese according to some scales.

In a week of cutting out sugar I feel great. Been staying around 1500 calories, walking at lunchtimes, drinking lots of water. I've not weighed myself since yet but feel tshirts are slightly looser around the waist already. Long way to go but haven't done massive changes just removed sugar oh and had no alcohol either, will change this weekend as it's fiancée's birthday.

as others have said here.... diet sure, but my advice would be keep tabs on cals during day (keep cals lower than cardio), no snacking, drink a few pints of water. Eat normal in evening.... but......

CARDIO

Burn 800-1200cals a day cardio exercise and the above will just work for you

Oh, and have weekends off, eat what you want :)

With the above I lose 1-2lb a week without fail .....though got to a stage now where I have to increase food intake to maintain

Withhout cardio and diet alone you will yoyo forever...

I am going to try and make the time even if it is just walking as it is really beginning to get me down :)

Can you elaborate on the regular times to eat as currently I am just lunch and dinner really - The snacking can be random one day and none the next its very odd.

What I meant was that by planning what you will be eating, and when you will be eating, it allows you to know roughly how many calories you are consuming. It also means that once you are in a routine (it takes a few weeks) then your body adapts to when to next expect food. For example I don't strictly count calories but when at work I know when I will be eating and roughly what I am likely to eat. This means I'm less likely to grab a snack if peckish. It also means I can vary my calories up or down slightly simply by adapting those meals slightly.

I find that when I'm not working I put on a little weight because I'm far more likely to grab a snack as my eating times aren't as rigid.

Make sure you understand the calories of liquid intake too (e.g. beers, sugary drinks and even some coffees with syrups in them).

I guess what I'm trying to say is get into a routine not just with exercise but also with meal times. I also find that keeping busy prevents me wanting to snack through boredom. In fact going for a walk suppresses my appetite a for a little while.
