Diets - Macros and Calories, what do you really need?

We have decided to release this thread as we need to free up “Sticky” space. We have however, added the link to to the S.A. “SA Rules and links thread” sticky for future reference and your convenience. This means followers of all different sports can have a feature thread linked from this page rather than having too many “Stickies” which seems fair.

I'm going to bump this thread up as it's relatively young compared to the other (old) stickies, and I think it's important some of the new lifters here have a read through to get their head around how important diet is :)

a bump and also a post !

just built a basic mon-fri diet and if my sums are right this is what iv gotten it to

daily protein 181.9 grams
daily fats 72.9 grams (20grams sat fats)
daily carbs 272.8 grams
daily calories 2450.

never worked out a proper diet before but now iv had to stop with the contact sports i thought it was time for me to try and eat better to help with the training and lack of sports.

got a question on eggs (i know) but whats the latest flimflam on them now, last time i read anything it was eggs are fine and dont make a great difference to cholesterol as what was thought a few years ago. just asking as my dads been given a food fact sheet from the nhs and they say 3 eggs a week is the limit for anyone ?!

anyways once i start back at the gym (next week if its finaly dryed out) il probably fire up a log thread with a proper write up of what im actualy eating and what not.

RE eggs: The conflicting info is simply due to some places taking longer to catch up to the newer information, they're still fine.

thought as much, i had a chat with his nurse who gave him the fact sheet and she claimed it was 100% accurate as far as how many eggs you could have.

well acording to this study from 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7882850.stm the idea of egg yokes being basicaly heart attack food is rather wrong.

"There is cholesterol present in eggs but this does not usually make a great contribution to your level of blood cholesterol.

"If you need to reduce your cholesterol level it is more important that you cut down on the amount of saturated fat in your diet from foods like fatty meat, full fat dairy products and cakes, biscuits and pastries."

How come documentaries on American prison life involve lots of heavily built men? I thought their diet is pretty basic in there. Makes me think all the supplementation is just a con for the sake of building muscle.

Because they either smuggle anabolic steroids in to prison, or, getting unsurprisingly bigger after spending 10 years of their lives in there, doing nothing but working out every day

Eggs or egg whites?

It's generally the yokes that are the cause for concern

Well, whites, but still ;)

Its a load of toffee really, theres loads of people who eat whole eggs on a daily basis and don't die from it.

More than likely because the rest of their diet is a hell of a lot better than most people :p

well theres a big difference in cal intake between egg whites and whole eggs ;). Needless to say i doubt 3 eggs a day in a balanced diet is gonna hurt anyone.

3 eggs a day with fried everything well thats a different story lol

well on my above diet plan il be dowing 6 eggs a day mon-fri and still keep sat fats under 20grams a day so guess il be fine :D

That's male cow manure. :) Unless you're talking about calories, in which case I agree, though the nutritional value of the yolk should not be overlooked.

I have 20 eggs a week, fried usually as it's quicker. Sometimes in an omelette. Eggs are king.

Don't believe the cholesterol myth and hype. Fat and cholesterol are an essential part of our diet and health.
