Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Dell S2409W 24-Inch monitor which has an HD connection. Currently it is connected via DVI. If I bought a gfx card which has an HD output will I notice a difference in picture quality?

Thanks

At the moment, HDMI is more beneficial for HTPCs as the audio and video is carried through the single connection. DVI is fine for most people with PCs that output to external speakers.

Their video signal is identical, as HDMI was designed from DVI, so neither boast superior image quality.

The difference between DVI and HDMI: absolutely chuff all except which cable you use. Unless you intend to use your graphics card as a sound card too.

On the back of what the above have said, either an nvidia or ATi card will give you HDMI. ATi has it built in to some cards where as nvidia provide an adapter with the DVI connection.

Wrong way around I think, most ati cards come with dvi ports and a dongle.

To clarify, Nvidia cards cannot handle HDMI audio natively; they must be physically plugged into your sound output inside the PC. ATi cards can carry audio without having to do this.
