Difference between Marvel & intel

Hi
My SSD is plugged into one of two Marvell SATA 6G ports- it boots fine, what is the difference?

It depends on the particular Marvell controller.

Some are near enough as good as Intel SATA 3, some are hardly better than Intel SATA 2.

If you have Intel SATA 3 then you should use that.

If you have only Intel SATA 2 then it could be a toss up as to what's best.

If you only have a SATA 2 SSD then you might as well use an Intel SATA 2/3 port whatever flavour of Marvell controller you have.

If you provide the make and model of motherboard and SSD we can see what's best for you.

The SSD is SATA 2 so it's probably not going to make much difference which port you use.

You might as well use an Intel SATA port.

The grey ports are Intel SATA 2 and the first pair of red ones next to them are Intel SATA 3.

If you ever get a SATA 3 SSD then make sure to use an Intel SATA 3 port.

The Marvell ports are from a 9182 controller which comes under the "near enough as good as Intel SATA 3" category.
