Difference between: Socket LGA1366 and Socket LGA1156?

As the title says, what is the difference between these two cpu types?

I was think, ok this looks good, and would be a very good cpu to overclock: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-328-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1272

However, then I noticed the cpu below this one, says 'overclockable':

Surely they are all overclockable?

Not quite right.... you can get i3's, i5's, and i7's for lga1156.

The main difference's are lga1366 has triple channel ram, and generally the lga1366 boards have more pci-e bandwidth for running multi-gpu setups.

you can get i7 on the 1156 socket but there generally 8xx chips and 1366 are usally 9xx chips. 1366 is tripple channel ddr3 ram and 1156 is dual channel ddr3. Intel messed up the naming scheme. 1366 is more for enthusiasts. But 1156 is also a good overclocker depending on mobo and chip. Next year apprently the 2011 socket is getting released

To me this looks like the best bang for buck from the I7 range:

What kind of overclock could one expect from this chip? A conservative overclock, nothing extreme. (wants chip to last a good few years)

Why is this one nearly £200 more expensive?

Hmmm, the whole Core I7 is a very complecated market.....

now with the six core cpu's puts spanner in the works.

YEs they are....this means 12 threads in windows task manager.

No, not really...its simple and future proof.

I would recommend you with an i7 930, it is indeed the best overclockers among the i7 family. (Only if you are on a budget)

Only £20 difference with the i7 950.

In terms of pure gaming performance, does the top AMD cpu such as: AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz keep up with the i7 950......?
