hey,

what is the difference between all the 5850 cards listed on the OC website. i've noticed a £20 difference in price but there is no difference in stat performance.

i'm abit confused over this. i'm so close to ordering a pc but i'm not sure which of these 5850 cards to go for.

could anyone clue me in on what brand i should go for ? :)

EDIT - forgot to ask ... if i go for the 5850 card, will it easily fit in a Antec 300 case and onto a Asus P6T SE Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard?

Because the cards are so new there are no real differences in the clock speeds to justify a price difference yet, but some people prefer better known brands like anything, a lot of people like Asus and Sapphire.

The only real difference will be with the warranty some company's only give a year some give 3 some give lifetime.

Your second question is yes I believe I read somewhere that someone with an Antec 300 could fit a 5800 series card with a small bit of room to spare

I have a Antec 300, but a GTX260. Forum meber Mikey has the same case as us, he just bought a 5870 and says it fits, but you cant have HDD directly behind it.

The 5850 is measured at 24.4 cm (9.5") meaning it should fit into the Antec 300 without too much trouble, (depending on the number of HDDs you have installed you might need to do a bit of cable management, however).

As to which one to buy:

If the clock speed and number of cores are the same its down to personal preference. Manufacturers are usually all pretty good, but look at one from a "bigger" manufacture. Also warranty / free game / accessories can be different.

could you recommend a sleek large case that could easily accommodate a 5850 card so its roomy inside to keep the pc cooler ?

this is without going too far up in price :)

This is what happens when a new card comes out, every one pushes out the exact same model then given time - each brand makes their own cut backs/advances with overclocked versions, better heatsinks / fans etc.

foomonkey....thread hijacked!

hmm...good case...depends on budget, mid-tower Vs full tower, personal preference largely.

the 5850 is only 9.5" so virtually all mid-tower and full tower cases will be fine.

Yeh, its a solid good looking case in my opinion and you can get some good aftermarket 120mm fans to keep everything nice and cool.

The 5850 should fit fine, but as the current trend is for cards to be getting bigger and bigger I dont think larger cards like the 5870 (28cm, 11") will fit.

If you can stretch an extra £20 the I'd recommend this:
