Im just wondering what exactly is the difference in a X5260 for example to an E8600? (Besides price of course :p)
A Xeon would run the same in a normal p35/p45 etc board right?

This difference is that it's Socket 771 and can be run in pairs on a server mobo. In other words, it won't run in a 775 mobo

There are, however, Socket 775 Xeons such as the E3110, E3120, and X3350...etc. They are no different than the C2D/C2Q equivalents though other than the names.

Allegedly the micro code in the Xeon versions is different, they are optimised for SMP/Server processes rather than multimedia apps. Don't know how true this is, but I have seen some benchmarks that show different results for Core 2 and Xeon at the same speed.

I've heard this as well but tbh I think it's not true unless someone can point me to actual tests. I've had many of both kinds and you can't tell the difference between them...but the Xeon does give you a certain e-peen leet status just cuz it's different :p
