Difference in music CD formats for UK and US?

Unfortunately it won't. The US uses the music format CDS which is a slight variation on the standard CD format. You won't be able to sell it abroad.

This used to be the way... When I was about 8 or something...

Think they have sorted themselves out now.

Nah, they are the same format and everything, its just that its read outwards->in... hence the American cd players spinning them counter-clockwise
