ok so two years ago i bought my fiesta LX, 2004 plate , really low mileage and more to the point it was cheap :) so i went down my dads garage this weekend and he has a 57 plate Renault megane 1.4 extreme, its only done 20k and only needs a new bumper on the front, i got someone ready to buy my current car so aslong as they are true to their word it should only cost me £900 to get the megane, however what sort of difference should i be looking at for my outgoing cost with the megane?

it would be fully repairs, servied MOT + Taxed before i paid out for it, yes fox £900 on top of what i get for the fiesta. fiesta done about 55K and for £900 for lower mileage and newer car sounded pretty good to me ?

edi*** its the 1.25 zetec LX

hmmmm but i wouldnt be able to get the same sort of focus for the same price though, the car will cost about £3000 to buy (with all the work done etc) and a quick scout for a focus with similar mileage etc doesnt bring back many results

from what i been told "i.e. you know what parents are like with details" :) its been fully serviced, my dad deals with cat c + d vehicles , full resprays and the odd it needs a new wing/bumper etc. im heading down there in a bit so i will take some snaps. will see if i cant et the price down aswel :)

sorry for the late reply, anyway car was keyed from top to bottom, lightly on the sides and quite badly on the front, hence why it had the front striped down, its not everyones idea of a ideal upgrade but i choose from what ever he gets in, its not like tesco where i can pick, he mainly has contracts with delivery companies so i got more of a choice of vans not cars, the handbrake did put me off a bit but interior can be changed if needs be and a gutless engine could be changed/tweaked if it caused a problem

everyone has an opinion, and they are entitled to it, but as mentioned i hope that peoples comments reflect what they experienced not what they read about

if you guys have "better" cars that dont cost more that £3000 to buy then im all ears :)

not to sure, i was told the fiesta lx wasnt a really really good car but at the time it was a cheap option

So you're spending at least £900 for a vandalised Megane, but it's ok cause you can simply replace the interior and tune the engine.

Just, keep the Fiesta. I ran a 2003 MkVI Fiesta for years and whilst it wasn't earth-shattering in terms of speed or handling, it was so reliable and so cheap to run. All I ever did to it was change the fluids, filters and tyres and it just kept on plodding away, sailing through MOTs and all the while being perfectly comfortable and adequate for a short commute or a trip to the shops. It didn't eat brakes and it didn't eat clutches, because it was a slow Ford. The Megane might well be equally as fine, but paying >£900 for a CAT D shed with an arguably worse interior and almost certainly worse reliability, makes no sense to me.

Save some money and sell the Fiesta to your Dad or something when you've got £3k in the bank.

£900 for a vandalised that would be fully repaired, serviced and MOTed first, wasnt aware that the meganes had such a bad rep, allllll taken on board and shall avoid
