Difference in running costs?

If it requires a new bumper...why does it require one? If it's got accident damage that'll lower the resale value of the car.

Also, OP, mileage doesn't matter, servicing etc. is far more important.

If it's only £3,000 and needs a new bumper at only 3 years old, I doubt it's been very well looked after. As for the low mileage, it means squat.

from what i been told "i.e. you know what parents are like with details" :) its been fully serviced, my dad deals with cat c + d vehicles , full resprays and the odd it needs a new wing/bumper etc. im heading down there in a bit so i will take some snaps. will see if i cant et the price down aswel :)

To answer your original question, the difference in running costs between the two cars would be minimal really.

Tyres may cost you £50 extra every 3 years and MPG might be 5 worse but really you are talking about the difference being less than £100 each year I would imagine.

So it's likely a Cat C or D this will make it hard to sell on for a profit as I said earlier, so it's unlikely you'd be able to buy and flog it for more to get a Focus.

Have all those that are slating the Megane actually driven one or just read that they are poor?
My misses has one and for normal driving they are fine, it's certainly not garbage.

A 1.4 litre Megane is garbage, the fact your 'misses' has low standards does not change this.

My wife is a district nurse, she drives through town and out to neighbouring villages on a daily basis, for this it's been a great car and certainly not garbage, fact.
The fact that she has married me proves she doesn't have low standards.
I'm not getting into a slanging match with you over a car however much you try, I'm not sure if you get off on winding people up or you have limited social skills, however I'm above that.

What does it do that makes it better than the competition?

It has a terrible, plasticky, grey interior. Ridiculously, and I mean ridiculously light steering and a stupid hand brake. A gutless 1.4 engine. Apart from having excellent safety features, it does nothing better.

No, that's opinion. There are far better cars than the 1.4 Megane to be had. This is still opinion but it is widely held opinion. Just because you've bought one doesn't mean that the OP should make the same mistake.

I'm sorry, I never said it was better than the competition so I have no idea why you are asking me that.

You stated it was garbage, I've been driving 18 years and can state for a fact the my wife's car is not garbage, it's been a great car and she finds it does the job she needs perfectly well.

Why would you buy it if everything else was better though, you must have thought it was the best car?

It's a great car if your idea of a great car is one that goes, stops, turns corners and keeps you dry when it rains but we've kinda moved on from that, the bar is a bit higher now given most cars mastered that about 20 years ago. A car is no longer 'good' simply becuase it can manage to perform basic car-like functions.

I don't know why you keep going on about it being the best car, I'm not saying it's best in class. I'm simply stating that we have a Megane which I have driven lots and I wouldn't class it as garbage.

I didn't think it was the best car, in fact I wasn't even looking for a car at the time.
My friend bought it from new, was a great car for him and offered it to me at a stupidly low price.
We didn't spend a year researching, it just came up.

As for the terrible interior, it's a French hatchback, of course it's not great but it's not an unpleasant place to be.
The light steering is great for round town, I don't think she's particular bothered about having feedback through the wheel when she's taking it to the limits.

The handbrake isn't a problem.

Safety features we are bothered about and they are excellent.
