what would you say the difference is between 1gb and 2/3/4 gb on a lap top running windows 7?

say its running an intel dual core or amd turion.

also what would be the main difference between a netbook and a laptop? i've never had one but they seem very similar except the ram.

Netbook is much smaller (typically 10-11'), very portable with great battery life and generally has an Intel Atom processor which is very energy efficient but isn't powerful at all.

Laptop is usually bigger, and you get more for your money in processing power terms. But battery life usually suffers a lot, as does portability.

For Windows 7 I would go with 2GB as the minimum for a laptop but ideally 3 or 4GB (Windows 7 64bit for 4GB of course). For a netbook 2GB would be ideal with Windows 7.

A netbook is a lot slower than the average laptop and ideally suited to web browsing, email etc.. If you need to do more demanding tasks then a laptop is the way to go, but as stated in another message, it will have lower battery life.

* Memory will make a huge different in the terms of performance and speed.
* There are huge differences between Netbook and Laptop, processor is different, screen size, battery life, weight, speed and performance
