Hi,

Im doing a re-install, on one partition Im having winXP 64 with ESET smart security (anti-virus) and on the other partition is Vista 64 with Norton 360.

I know you cant have 2 anti-virus programms on the same partition, But will the above scenario be OK?

Cheers

+ for Eset on both!

Hmmm...

I was using Norton cuz I got a free user licsence from a friend (He got a 3 user pack, only using 2)

I have only just downloaded ESET to try it out, and have to say Im impressed so far.

Could I install ESET twice on the same licsence (on the same machine?)

it would work fine, since you can't use both at the same time, morally I wouldn't have a problem doing it :)

I don't think the user licenses are transferable like that, you'll have to read the small print.

why can't you have 2 anti-virus programs on one partition?

Running two antivirus programs concurrently on one operating system is not recommended, as they will almost certainly conflict with each other.

In answer to the original question, using two different antivirus systems would actually give you some benefit if they were set to scan their opposing partitions as well as the one they resided on. With two different scanning engines and signature databases, you could could theoretically improve your overall detection rate.
