Basically me and a few mates were 'dicussing' about HD and one of them claims that their is different bands of HD, i.e. some being better than others which i think is true but can't find any hard evidence for it. I tried looking on google, but couldn't really find anything about it. Can anyone enlighten me about this.. would like to clear it up :P

Thanks, Saint

Well he's either referring to the different resolutions 720p/1080i/1080p with 1080p being the best and 720p/1080i on a par. Generally speaking you need a large screen, i'd say 40"+ to see the benefit of 1080p at normal viewing distance, otherwise you won't see much of the detail increase over 720p.

He could also be referring to the different type of codecs and transfers. Some old film transfer are done rather shoddily and thus aren't as good as the better transfers from film to HD. Mpeg2 codecs aren't as superior as the codecs out now so you should see an increase in quality over Mpeg2 HD films as well.
