Different HDD tool than chkdsk

I have a laptop which blue screens quite often, it's all pointing at a hardware error and I'm suspecting the HDD or the RAM. I've done the Windows mem check which came back clean, but I intend to do memtest overnight on each stick to fully test that.

I've done a chkdsk /f on the HDD and it's come back clean, but I was wondering if there's any other tests I can do?

Drive is a Toshiba MK2046GSX.

HD-tune will show you the SMART data for the disk, and allow an alternate surface scan. Unfortunately it doesn't look like toshiba provide any diagnostic tools themselves. I think it would be unlikely for the disk hardware fault to cause bluescreens though (but controller or driver problems could).
If you're running windows, I'd also look in the event logs for disk errors and other events that might give some clues.

As I said in the OP, it's pointing to a hardware error. I know the HDD is least likely however I am eliminating all possibilities.

But in saying that I think I've borked the BIOS on it so I may just have to throw it away, it's too old to be worth the effort.
