Hi! I have an Orange Live Box router. The wireless security isn't all that. It has WEP support only. I switched it on, changed keys and within minutes a person was on my wireless network.

I'm thinking if I buy a wireless access point with WPA security, and connect it to the router and disable the router's wireless, would I be able to recieve the wireless signal from the access point only and get the internet from the router?

I'm pretty sure this is possible if I make the wireless access point in the same subnet as the router. But, it will mean i'd have static IP address which means i'm going to have to turn the DHCP off right?

Thanks!

Yes.

No. The AP's IP is irrelevant (except that at some point you'll want to connect to it to configure it), you'll no more have a static IP than when you connected to the router directly and you can do whatever you want with DHCP. DHCP requests will pass through the router just the same.
