I just a new laptop specifically a Dell XPS not that it should make any difference.

I want to reformat and install using my own copy of windows (win 7 pro)

I've made my USB drive bootable and booted into the setup program.

Formated C drive and tried to install but it wont have it, when I click "next" it says it can't use this partition and that seems to be that.

My guess is need to using something like good old fdisk to repartition and format the dive but fdisk doesn't seem to recognise the drive properly.
The last option which I really don't want to do is take the hdd out, plug it in another pc and wipe it complely.
Is it easy to get the hdd out of a new xps15?
Hopefully someone can suggest a bootable program I can use to partition my drive correctly?

As for your install, have you tried using a disc.
