Well the mrs is getting a digital camera off her mum for xmas, and cause shes in uni and doesn't have that much space i was thinking as part of her prezzie to get one of those digital photo frames.

Im just wondering are they any good ?

If you get one with a high enough resolution i.e. a 7" with 600x800 then yes they are very good. However, the poorer resolution ones look very pixely

They are pretty good quality and all of them come with inbuilt slideshows and transition effects for your photos. Plus most of them on the market atm take just about every memory card going unless you wanna get to the £100 point where they have wifi/bluetooth connections as well.

Personally I just don't think they are worth the money. For the money you'd spend on a decent digital frame you could buy several normal frames and pay for about 200 pics to be printed at Jessops et al.

sorry, can someone tell me what a digital photo frame is?

is it just a small screen which one can plug a digital camera/memory card into and it shows your photos?

'cause for 100 quid you could buy a tv and just connect your camera to that...

basically, they range from £40 upwards and there frames you can plug your memory card / usb etc into and have a constant slide show of pictures.

£40 quid for a slideshow. Rip off. Maybe in a few years when they are actually worth the money.

For now either

1: Buy normal frame and have pics printed
2: Convert an old clapped-out laptop
3: Plug camera into TV
4: Use existing laptop/PC

Yes, because 2, 3 and 4 are really elegant....

exactly, and this is for your girlfriend, i think she'd really appreciate the time and effort you put into converting your old laptop into a digital photo frame!!!

LOL I was thinking of getting one for my GF but i've told her about it now, she was well keen on the idea, but its no longer a suprise! :(

If this was just for viewing photos i'd agree, i just put them up on my tv/computer when needed, but he is talking about a present for his girlfriend. I don't personally like digital photo frames (i stare at a screen all day, i like the thought of a physical photo, the texture etc) but i think this is a nice idea at least :)

I have researched into these quite a bit. I recently bought a cheapie for £45 from a big online seller. It was crap!

The only one worth buying on the market is the one made by Philips, although it will set you back £80+ ...... arguable price vs. satisfaction

Lol @ convert a clapped out laptop. Who wants a clapped out laptop in there living room as a show piece?

I think they are really good. I bought one for my girlfriend for our 1 year anniversary and loaded it full of our photos. She loved it, scored major points with that one!

if you want my advice, get one which has a 4:3 aspect ratio if possible - otherwise the pics end up looking stretched.

They're pretty good - if you get the right one, i'm still looking for the right one tho...

i want it to have:

* 4:3 ratio (res of 640x480, 800x600 etc)

* random mode, as some when you turn them on start from 1 and go through again - you'll only ever see the first 20 over and over, unless its on 24x7.

*bluetooth (to send from phone)

*tech like in a new parrot one i saw - has built in SIM card and can recieve MMS, and extract and use the picture.

If one could do all of these things, i'd be sold.

so far this is the best i can find, not sure if it does all i want tho:

if its a competitor, i'll remove.

OcUK sell the digital frames

They look nice and futuristic, sort of thing I'd expect to see on Captain Picard's desk.

But he's a government employee and they get perks, ;) for the rest of us I don't think they're (currently) worth the money they're asking for them.

Most people I know at uni print off all their photos and stick them all over their walls. A digital photo frame might look nice but it won't cover up the walls.
