Yes, I know it’s another PS3 thread but please bear with me.
I’m torn between building a new PC for gaming or a PS3.
I really want to play Crysis but I can’t decide if I can justify the cost just for one game.
I work for an IT company so I could get all the parts more or less at cost price.
The thing is I don’t use my PC for anything intensive these days, mainly internet use, movies and music.
Although my ageing PC still does all I want it to do, when it comes to modern games, my 6800GT just can’t hack it anymore. I do like as much graphic detail as possible and I loathe the idea of playing Crysis in low graphic detail. So, basically, until there is another stunning FPS game released for the PC that won’t be released for the Xbox 360, a new PC wouldn’t be used for anything intensive.

So, now back to the PS3..
I really want to play RFOM and Formula one and these are about the only two PS3 games that appeal to me at the moment.
Any multiplatform releases I will continue to buy for the Xbox 360.
I’ve taken onboard various points of view of PS3 posts on these forums but what concerns me the most is what NokkonWud and others have said about the PS3’s dead zones on the controller affecting FPS type games.
I love the Xbox 360’s controller and when I had a play with mates PS3, I really didn’t like the feel of the controller.
I don’t want this post to turn into a platform war and too be fair, I think only people who have extensively used a PC, Xbox 360 and a PS3 for gaming can give an unbiased upinion.
I did think about posting this in the gaming PC section but I figured this forum would contain more users of multiplatform gaming.

i would sell my 360, upgrade the pc and get the ps3. I have all three and that would be my preference, but i think you will know in the back of your mind what you really want to do :)

PC if its between PC and PS3, no I don't have a PS3, but see my mates ones gathering dust while we all play 360 :D

Last March I was having much the same questions PS3 or new DX10 GFX card for my PC, at the time both choices had there pro's and cons, but im glad i got the PS3 instead of the upgrade.
The only game i have played on my PC since I got my PS3 is Bioshock, while its a game i enjoyed i wouldnt of upgraded my PC for it. With the PS3 i have spent far to much time and money on games this year, infact ive played more on my PS3 than i did my PS2 and my PC the year before. Ive got Uncharted coming on friday and will get Singstar this week if i find it cheap, both games exclusive to the PS3 of course, I wouldnt advocate buying a PS3 just for 2 games or upgrading your PC just for crysis, if you want a PS3 to play all the exclusive PS3 games then yeah get one, and in the same way if you want to play all the exclusive PC games then upgrade, in the end your choice.
The deadzone thing is overblown by a few people on here, never noticed it mnyself that much though, seems to have been improved by the Dual Shock 3 controller according to some, must admit i seem better at COD4 now ive got mine though lol.
Thing is for MP FPS games the "problem" is the same for all parties its not like it only will effect you and you are at a disadvantage because of it.

Personally I would not spend £250-£300 pounds (guessing price of ps3 or decent GPU) for 1 game (your pc example), nor 2 games (for your ps3) example.

I have only a 360 and ps3 and a normal PC (ie not super duper GPU), can't really advise properly as I have not played PC games extensively for a couple of years at least now...

I agree with msmalls74 regarding the deadzone issue. I have not used my dual shock 3 enough to know for certain, it feels different but it is new so its hard to tell exactly as the buttons, sticks feel newer as well. And like he says why does it matter if everyone is using the same hardware?

Fairly generic advice I'm afraid as I'm not into PC games at present.

PC all the way. And I'm sure you could find more than just Crysis when if you did upgrade, plenty of excellent PC games out there.

Is that not a fallback from deciding not to update your PC though? I mean if you had decided to upgrade the PC well I doubt you would not be playing it, and would not have a PS3, so kind of makes sense when you picked the PS3 over the PC that the PS3 gets more time.

Sound advice from both msmalls74 and rp2000

I myself have been a very hardcore PC gamer since the early 90's - Since getting my PS3 I have bought an Apple Mac for my Browsing/Email needs and my Gaming PC is up for sale, PC Gaming is dead for me, orange box held my attention for a couple of weeks, but other than that nothing interests me.

Crysis looks fantastic, but all that money is not worth one or two games.

If I was in your situation I would deffinatley go for the PS3. There will be loads of great games out next year and it has blueray.
Don't think I would be able to justify a whole new upgrade for one game.

And all that money for a PS3 for 2 games is worth it then? ho ho ho

The price of a decent graphics card would probably pay for a PS3 let alone a full system.

And i'm sure he'd be interested in more than the games he mentioned on the PS3 once he'd downloaded a few demos/looked into it more.

LOL they are not decent graphics cards, they are top end highest you can get, look for decent to the specs Crysis recommends (if you know)

What Crysis recommend would still play the game poorly with max settings imo.

If he wants to play Crysis and enjoy it to the full, he's going to need one hell of a card.

What card did you have in mind mate?

Strange lots of people in the PC forum are playing it well with 8800 GT's then :) which can be had for £135 on OCUK.
