Dilemma. iphone or Android....?

I think the better games argument is becoming obsolete these days

Really? I think in most ways Android and iOS are pretty close these days, but for games Android is probably as far behind as it has ever been. It's a desolate wasteland compared to iOS as far as games go.

It's true that Android has slowly been improving in that area, but the thing is that iOS keeps improving even faster. It seems that for every port that finally makes it to Android, iOS gets hundreds more new good games.

I can't disagree more.. it's still playing catchup in most areas, the only 'new' feature I see is Siri, and quite frankly that's more a gimmick, and it's not like there hasn't been things like Vlingo and others available on Android that whilst not as integrated or exactly the same they have afforded similar functionality when it comes to a lot of Siri offers.

Gaming wise, I also see a shift, all new games tend to be on both platforms, we had a game-a-thon over Christmas as guests had their iPhones, and where showing off all the 'top games' they had bought, and where very surprised that 95% of them where available on Android, and there where free versions of most of them (ad-supported of course)..

And getting back OT.. a lot of Android phones suffer from bloat-ware, my Desire HD now it's modded can last 4 days between charges.. a stock HD (My work colleague has one) struggles to get 1 day out of it.

But, be under no illusion that any smartphone used heavily will only last a few hours, the iPhone 4S is not as good as the iPhone 4 from all the gaming we did over christmas, all phones struggled to do 6 hours non-stop..

I'd just go with whatever OS you prefer, the SGS2 vs iPhone 4s battery wise is just not worth worrying about.

The easiest way around it all is a battery extender or similar, I use a small external pack that takes 4 AA (I use NiMH rechargeables in it) and that will power it for a long time (You can fully charge the phone at least twice, if not more)..

Totally have to agree with Demon, any smart phone thats used heavily will not last to long on battery.

But if used conservatively at times when you don't fully need to use all its power they can last a good few days.

I don't have auto sync turned on, background data is turned off, data is turned off unless i need it when im out and about, wifi is turned off when at home unless i need it. I manually sync stuff like e-mails/facebook/weather and stuff like that if and when i need it.

The screen shot below is my SGII on stock 2.3.6 (rooted) with a bloat ware frozen, its the standard battery also. Granted most of my use at the moment on the phone is e-mails/websurfing/calls but if u have certain things turned off when you don't need them, it can save a lot of battery drain.

Ignore the charge icon, was plugged in via usb for 1 sec to take the screen shot.

This is the first I hear it.

I'd like to see any evidence suggesting that people rooted their phones for CF3D.

I was referring to the popularity of CF3D in general, my 'evidence' is reading many, many forums since it was released.

Anyway, there are many people that find phone games appealing.

Less than 500,000 downloads?

Following that logic, people rooted their phones for much smaller changes on their phones.

I thought it was more than that, has it been changed at all?

Hm, anyway. There are a lot of people that find gaming on a mobile phone fairly important. I don't personally but there you go. :p

Sorry, when I said "in that area" I thought I had made it clear that I was referring specifically to gaming and nothing else.

Sorry, but unfortunately that just isn't true. Not even close to "all new games" are released on both platforms. In fact the number of new games released on both platforms is a tiny minority. Go ahead and try to come up with a list of good games from the past month that were released on both platforms.

It's a slow month, but in the first couple of weeks of January alone iOS has seen the likes of Caylus, Zombie Wonderland 2, Monkey Quest, Hero Academy, Super Crate Box, Run Roo Run - to name a few of the more highly rated ones. Not a single one of them released on Android. December was insane with the amount of high quality iOS releases, Android got barely anything notable.

Btw, I'm not arguing whether or not gaming should be an important decision when buying a phone (and my most recent phone is Android). Just trying to make it clear how bad Android is at it in comparison to iOS.

You're not arguing yet you just said Android is bad at gaming compared to iOS.

Personally I would say people playing THAT many games on their phones is a minority. Most people here at uni use their iPhones and other smart phones for messaging and Facebook!

It is bad at gaming compared to iOS.

I said I'm not arguing whether or not that should be an important decision in buying a phone (it wasn't important to me, it is to others - that wasn't the argument though).

Sure, you could be completely correct. That wasn't my argument though. All I was doing was addressing someone's opinion that Android has caught up in games.

That's what i get roughly out of my iPhone 4S with 3g always enabled push notifications on on everything i use (email, facebook ext ext)

@NuclearWinter: That's all fine and true, it just seems you were making a big deal out of it ;)

@Danny091: Screen on time is the most important factor after cell usage. What does "Usage" mean? You only used your iPhone for 4 hours in 3 days? How exactly.

@Danny091: Screen on time is the most important factor after cell usage. So those statistics are kinda meaningless.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think screen on is when its actually in use? because the iPhone turns off the screen when it starts counting standby time.

Yeah that's why I reworded my post, wasn't sure either. I guess Apple keep it simple then. Doesn't show Wi-Fi usage etc
