Looking to upgrade the old 19 inch monitor and the 5850 soon... .

Monitorwise I've been looking at these 2 below :-

samsung

Benq

Currently have a 5850 that I'll be upgrading probably next month if i pick up the monitor this month...

What would you recommend ?? Get the Samsung and then put the extra cash (saved by the VAT BACK offer) towards a better gfx card. was thinking 7950 but probably could stretch a bit further to a 7970 or even a 680 get the 'cheaper ' samsung...

Currently only playing bf3 and Eve online... given the max resolutions of both these monitors would a 2gb 680 be ok or would you suggest more ram from the 7950/7970 or a 4gb 680 ??

Exactly same position as me.. keep hoping LG will release new 120hz monitors this year to replace my 6 yr old trusty LG. Not sure the 5850 could keep up with the 24" and 120hz.

It isn't going to happen I'm afraid as LG only have 60Hz-capable FPR 3D panels in production. If you are a fan of LG's monitors then you probably prefer the matte screen surface over glossy? In that case the BenQ would probably be the safer bet.

@both

The Samsung offers a richer, clearer and more vibrant image (due in part to the Ultra Clear Panel screen surface) at the expense of possible reflection and a slightly smaller screen. It also offers superior pixel responsiveness with better implemented overdrive but if you are like the vast majority of users you won't notice this difference. The integrated 3D can also be thought of as a bonus. It really depends on your individual tastes and lighting environment as to which you should pick. They are both fantastic gaming monitors in my opinion.

And for those games I think a 2GB 680 would be fine at that resolution. You might want to disable MSAA to improve performance as you will be able to make use of very high frame rates. This in turn should reduce any strain on VRAM.

What GPU do you plan on getting? If you're looking for 3D and getting an AMD card go for the Samsung. If you're planning on 3D and getting an Nvidia card then get the BenQ.

If you're just in it for the 120hz and you like matte screens go for the BenQ. If you like glossy screens go for the Samsung.

I have both and while the colour vibrance and depth on the Samsung is better (IMO) the glare can be annoying. BenQ has a height, swivel and tilt adjustable stand and the Samsung only has tilt.

If you get the Samsung you need to potentially do various hacks to get compatibility with the Tri-Def software and some games. It is unofficial so if it doesn't work don't expect a fix.

With the BenQ also if you're goin 3D you can only use Nvidia cards on it and you need to buy a 3D glasses kit, which is an extra 120 quid.

ATM I just fancy a nice screen.. 120hz with 3d possibilities.. Current screen has a matte finish so would probably prefer that.. Also height adjuster could be a good thing..

As for the gfx card I'm not fussed. It plan to keep the rig for a good 3 yrs..with minimal upgrades if possible.. I've always been an ati follower but I'm not adverse to switching to nvidia if my eyes are t being pulled out over price/performance.

What did you go for Karateyid
the samsung or Benq 120hz

both coming from matte screens then, im hoping the samsung isnt too reflective..

Thank you PCM2 for the valued advice, I decided on the Samsung

The Samsung is good. perfect size, and looks very nice in games. it's glossy yeah. But I'm used to that already, and i'm next to a window. I think you'll be happy Shuffle

Thanks PCM2 & Kh85...

look forward to playing on the Battlefield on this, also Skyrim

I've recently played B3 on my old CRT and I'm sure its made a difference to gameplay although I did turn V-Sync off as i always had that on due to screen tearing on my 20" LG LCD

Got the Samsung SA700..
Gorgeous monitor, has breathed new life into games such as Skyrim and Battlefield.
The reflective screen, could potentially annoy - although my screen does not
face a window.
The vibrancy and sharpness really impress. A good looking monitor all round.
I've ran FRAPs in the background to see the frame rate go up to 120hz. I haven't tried 3D yet.
Love to see this and the Benq XL2420t side by side, to compare this against a similar spec matte monitor.
At 185 (with VAT claimed back) you can't go wrong with this.

I love my samsung. I don't think you'll be dissapointed in the long run! The gloss could get annoying but i love that too! :D

ive been back and forth for weeks deciding between these two, missin out on the deals etc haha. Still cant decide, **** scared of buying and getting dead pixels to. :(

Yes I know the feeling, im very indecisive. Don't forget the Samsung has the zero pixel guarantee (see product description).
The Benq and Samsung are both great monitors, but in the end I had make a decison based on PCM2's advice (above).

im currently using a a LG monitor, which is a matte... so im leaning toward the benq, and the way u can adjust the monitor, height tilt etc just seems so good. If i buy it from OCUK , and get a dead pixel, would they replace it or? do you needa get in touch with benq

hmm looks like I'll be getting a 670 to replace the trusty 5850... So I think I'll be looking at getting the Benq...

Samsung does look really nice though... I just dont think I could be bothered with the hassle of hacking about to 'fix' 3d with an nvidia card..

Stag do in edinburgh next weekend so I'll be ordering it all for the weekend after :)
