Yes, they're only a fiver from Halfords but is there any way to remove a tape player without these? My MOT has just expired and it's not until 11am tomorrow but I fancied fitting the head unit today whilst I'm not busy working/running around. :)

Depends on what type it is, you can use a coat hanger for the four pin type ones, or a butterknife for the flat type ones. Basically anything you can ram in the hole will do it :D

sometimes they will, you may need two butter knifes, or to cut the coat hanger in half....

alternatively get yourself a ***** - invaluable for removing wheels or headunits in next to no time ;)

It is far easier to have something in each hole (or at least do one side at a time), but so long as you can uncatch them and pull the HU out enough so that they don't lock again, it is possible 1 by 1.

I can't for the life of me get the damn thing off. It's a clio with a standard cassette player :\ I've been using alan keys and a knife and no matter which way I put them in the holes, nothing clicks or happens.

Pull towards the centre of the stereo when you've shoved the things in. I did my old 206 with a screw driver. Lifted a side at once then used a knife to jummy it out.

Got it at last. :) Now there's more wires at the back of this stereo (presumably because of the steering controls) than fits into the newer CD player :p

I'm such a "noob".

Lol, they probably don't all fit in your player.. and if each of them would fit, there's probably one lead with ignition live power and another with continuous live power.
