I hooked up an old SATA seagate on the ULi raid controller I already got my raid. The disk is identified during post in the ULi raid bios, but not in windows. Any ideas?

In device manager it appears as "ST316002 3AS SCSI Disk Device" , but there is no driver for it.

I am using windows vista.

Thanks

It's possibly just a case of the Seagate needing either partitioned and formatted or just imported as a foreign disk. Go into Disk Managment - right click on My Computer and pick Manage, then choose Disk Management from the left hand list in the new window. All your drives, including the Seagate should appear in the Disk Management window, if your not sure what to do from there post back and I'll take you through it.

The disk is not there :(

I partitioned and formatted the disk using the Vista installation DVD. I went up to the format/partition part and cancelled the installation after.

The only place I can see the disk atm is in device manager. Is under "other devices" and seems to lack driver support (is this possible?)

ps: Any idea when the new synology 2xdisk NAS are out? I am after a raid1 array for my data, to end this "issues" once and for all!

cheers

I assume I did, since I am typing this from a raid 0 on the ULi controller. I downloaded a package from nvidia and used that back when I installed vista I remember.

This is driving me nuts :/ I have to delete stuff to keep windows running when I download newer :(

And if you ask why I do not burn DVDs, its because my plextor for some odd reason produced crap DVDs which might or might NOT play/read data after, and I do not trust it anymore. Is this an indication of optic lens failure and time to order another?

ASUS A8R32MVP Deluxe on the ULi Electronics controller (set to RAID mode) and already using a raid 0 raptors array for the windows I am posting this.

edit: I downloaded Integrated 220 driver from Nvidia site for all ULi products, and the setup successfully found and installed the SATA controller driver (thats what it said atleast).

Now I am PUZZLED.

No the seagate is not in raid. However, when I reinstalled the Uli intergrated driver pack windows no more boots :( I am trying recovery now from the DVD. I hope and pray to god it fixes it cause I have files which I need to deliver on monday :( oh god.

Is there a way to change driver for the controller manually from the comand lne or something? I used CHKDSK /F as windows suggested and the array seems fine. The autorepair tool said it cannot repair automaically and error was "Bad Driver"

The facts are,

The windows installation on the Raid 0 seems ok because chkdsk says 0 bad file records.

PLEASE someone give me a hint how I put back the whatever drivers was working an hour ago :(

ps: I think I ll buy 10 flash sticks to have 10 copys of my data from now on!

It wont boot in safe mode either :( Whats going on? It is supposed to load the default driver I used to installed it in the first place. And no system restore points either. In XP restore points where created automatically, now why they havent!

The problem seems to be driver related. Vista auto recovery tool pops an error about "BadDriver" , so any ideas how to fix this? ULi is the worse controllers I ve seen in my life. Support is awful, driver is still for Vista RC ffs.

I downloaded the Integrated driver package from Nvidia. Unpacked it and put it on a flash stick. Loaded windows recovery manager and it asked for a driver. Ok then, I click on the M5288 folder (which is the thing I got) and then i386 (i got 32bit) and I got a list with drivers. I choose the one for the controller in my motherboard spec and windows says failed to load driver. I am out of words.

I think I am fed up. I will go buy a new motherboard tomorrow monday and trow away this useless asus crap. From tomorrow I am not a customer of asus anymore. They dont even have a driver on their site and you need to google for it ffs.
