Direct Debit Admin Fee?!

It is not the fact that there is a charge levied against people who choose not to pay by DD, but the fact that the amount these companies charge. It costs no more than 60 pence to take payment via other methods. Virgin/NTL are one of the worst if not the worst for overcharging customers (£5 per month).

If you cant make the payment on time, cancel the contract with them. It's that simple. They shouldn't have to do the chasing...but when they must then they charge you for it.

£5 per month ? Is a rip off, as the actuall cost is no more than 60 pence.

Where do you get this 60p from?

Do you know what's envolved with having to chase up late payments?! I guarantee it's more than 60p's worth of trouble for them.

Whether it's late or not is not the point. The point is if it is late there is a late payment fee - which is fair enough. Charging £5 for a payment that is not late (and may well be early) is wrong.

as said its guaranteed, just not on time otherwise i wouldnt still be with the six years later

How about I guarantee your wage once you do get a job... but wait a second, how about I pay you a month later than payday once in a while?

You get the picture.

Why? Because you said so and refuse to use a method of payment to avoid the easily avoidable charge?

OK, I'll give you an extra £5 on top.

But wait a second? You've defaulted all payments within that month for your suppliers (gas, water, electric) as you are still waiting for your monthly wage from me... running a business costs money, if they supply you with a service, they expect paying on time - if you don't, you cost them money quite simple really.

I do pay by DD.
What i am saying is that is wrong to overcharge people for not using the companies prefered payment method. Not everyone who pays by other means is a bad payer or late payer. If they pay late then yes they incure a late payment fee, but if the bill is payed on time then they should only be charged the cost of the payment transaction.

Why not? The entire point of paying by DD is that it is all automated. No (or very little) human intervention.

Also, you have the choice to pay via a method that doesn't incurr any charges...or one that does. The company is telling you that if you pay by DD there won't be any additional charges..they make it quite clear. If you opt for something else then how can you complain when you do get charged?

What's so hard to understand?

I know what the company says and their charges for non DD payments, but that does not make the £5 per month fee justifyable does it ?

Read what i have been saying. Thats not hard either is it ?

It's a priced charge, not a penalty, hence it doesn't actually have to be justifiable...

It's like whinging at OcUK because you think they are charging to much for a product...

Yes it is hard to understand, they've already LISTED their fees for payments via other methods.

You're forgetting that their services are a luxury not a necessity, you don't HAVE to subscribe to them. Either lump it or leave IMO.

Of course, you could do the sensible thing and subscribe to DD - it is free after all ;)

It's quite justifiable if you're agreeing to pay it from the off.

I give up. Night all.

I realise it's a service charge and not a penalty, thats what i have been saying all along. However i think that it is to much when the actual cost is nothing like the charges levied.
Different companies charge different amounts ie, BT= £4.50 per Quater, Virgin £5 per month. This charge should be inline with the cost of the service.

forget it, just close the thread its become a slaggin match. ill just send the letter off and see what reply i get. everyones got different opinions on it, i feel its unfair, others dont.
