Microsoft has released the system requirements for DirectStorage and Sampler Feedback

OS: Must have Windows 11
GPU: Must support DX 12 Ultimate
Storage: At least 1TB NVMe SSD

So that means you need a pcie3/4 nvme drive with at least 1TB capacity, you need a RTX2000/3000 or RX6000 GPU and you must install Windows 11

Quite steep requirements that will no doubt limit what developers can do in their games for quite some time yet. Will be nice to have our games load in 1 to 2 seconds but the asset streaming is probably something that will take time - so I wouldn't expect to see Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on PC for a few years

Does that suggest it'll be the requirement for console ports going forward? The 1TB capacity comes out of nowhere, what's that about

Oh and there is a indirect CPu requirement too.

windows 11 needs a Ryzen 2000 or newer for AMD and Intel 8th gen or newer for Intel to run - so naturally that becomes the CPU requirement for DirectStorage too

Windows 11'is about to make a lot of people upgrade their PC

I think bios has to enable some feature for them storage things to work in win 11 too dont they.

But im not fussed, win 10 does me, and just cos this win 11 is coming, doesnt mean i have to upgrade to 11 its just a option isnt it, win 10 will be around for a good while yet.

Microsoft been holding back features.

Just noticed that Windows 11 has Auto HDR, a feature PC gamers have been asking for years to get access to

Yep, its been confirmed that Windows 11 is a FREE upgrade for Windows 10 users

Immerse Yourself in Superior Graphics

Games will look better than ever thanks to Auto HDR, a unique capability we’re offering with Windows 11 which automatically adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) enhancements to games built on DirectX 11 or higher that previously only leveraged Standard Dynamic Range (SDR). HDR allows a supported game to render a much wider range of brightness values and colors, giving an extra sense of richness and depth to the image. We introduced this tech in our Xbox Series X|S consoles and got an outstanding response from creators and players. We’re excited to bring this groundbreaking technology to Windows 11.

Buckle Up for Gaming at Amazing Speeds

With a high performance NVMe SSD and the proper drivers, Windows 11 can soon load new games faster than ever thanks to a breakthrough technology called DirectStorage, which we also pioneered as part of the Xbox Velocity Architecture featured in the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
With DirectStorage, which will only be available with Windows 11, games can quickly load assets to the graphics card without bogging down the CPU. This means you’ll get to experience incredibly detailed game worlds rendered at lightning speeds, without long load times. “DirectStorage Optimized” Windows 11 PCs are configured with the hardware and drivers needed to enable this amazing experience.

It's always free ;)

I'll take the CPU requirements with a pinch of salt. Officially, Win10 doesn't support my 2500k. But here I am, running it just fine..

If you look at the same page that says Win11 only supports 8th gen or newer Intel, it also says Win10 2021 builds only support 6th gen or newer Intel.

Clearly it's pap.

I thought that direct storage would skip system memory.

I wonder how RAM speeds and timings will affect this. I also wonder if capacity is going to be affected. For example will X GB need to be reserved for this feature to function.

Also are we going to end up with a balancing act were you don't want your SSD bottlenecking your RAM and vice versa.

Likely the dodgy dev build kicking around?

Yes. I thought I'd give the new UI a go...

Thankfully you can return the Start menu with active tiles to Windows 10 functionality. I use ~60 categorised tiles on my Start menu, including the live tile weather app. Curvy ladies are great, but corners not so much. Damn these hard to see scroll bars.

Damn, my Corsair MP510 is 960GB, does that mean it's not supported? I didn't realise capacity would be an issue. What happens if you haven't got much free space? The capacity requirement is puzzling, surely they should mention free space if it's an issue?

Referencing the speed of SSD would make more sense, e.g. 1GB/s minimum. I wonder whether it's a typo as the page has been taken down.
