Direct3d on an Advent laptop

My gf has a Advent Laptop with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 1.7Ghz
1GB RAM
Intel 950 onboard graphics
Vista Home

I'm trying to run Psychonauts, but I get an error saying Direct3d is not supported.

Is this really the case and nothing can be done?

I know the game wouldn't run amazingly well, but my gf isn't all that bothered about uber-flashy graphics.
