Directory is Corrupted or Unreadable

I have a folder on one of my hdds which says the above when I try to rename/delete/read it. Anything I can use to retrieve the data thats in it, and if not just purge it?

(Would booting to safe mode allow that?)

heh, i was out in a school all morning, just got back

i'd wait for more replies, as i've never come across this before, someone may have a surefire way of fixing it.

google suggests using data recovery programs and/or "chkdsk /f"

as i said above though, wait for more replies...

As said, chkdsk /f should work.

It will prompt you to force a dismount, choose no. Then choose to run at next restart. Reboot your PC and it should repair it.

Hmm odd. Chkdsk /f just removed the directory completely.

make sure your backups are in order

might be worth running hdtune on it and doing a full error scan

Aye that disk is backed up. Cheers, will look at hdtune.
